These are exciting times for Lacey’s Plumbing & Heating Supplies which recently expanded its Ballycoolin operations with the opening of a new bigger and better store, and completed a major revamp of its Naas bathroom and tile showroom.

From humble beginnings in 2014, the award-winning provider of heating, plumbing, tile and bathroom supplies has grown to operate four stores across Dublin and Kildare, and employ 30 people. It’s a real family affair with founder and managing director Keith Lacey being joined by his wife Jean, sister Rebecca, brothers Stephen and Tom, and son Eoin. Whether you are a plumber in need of supplies or a homeowner undertaking a bathroom renovation, the expert and experienced team at Lacey’s are always on hand to help.

A plumber by trade, Keith noticed a gap in the market during the economic downturn, decided to take a chance and the company has gone from strength to strength ever since.

“I was working on building sites during the boom, but could see the downturn coming, so I started to get into supplying and renovating bathrooms,” he recalls.

“I was still subcontracting on a couple of sites, but when the number of houses being built was in decline, I turned my attention to bathroom renovations. I bought a unit in Ballycoolin and put a small showroom in for supply and fit jobs. People started to come in asking for a few bits and pieces and a customer-base was built. I gave up the plumbing altogether to sell supplies. That was never the intention originally, but it has worked out well.”

Exactly 10 years after Lacey’s Plumbing & Heating Supplies first opened its doors at 118 Millennium Trade Park, Ballycoolin, Dublin 11, the company relocated its trade counter along with plumbing, heating and tile supplies to a larger premises at nearby Unit 42 Millennium Trade Park. All that remains in the old premises is a showroom which features a full range of bathroom products.

“We have two outlets in Ballycoolin at the moment, but the plan is to eventually have everything under the one roof in the new premises. It has a big yard and warehouse, and more room for parking,” Keith says.

The other stores are located in Naas Industrial Estate and 11A Tivoli Avenue, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6W. Opened in 2019, the Naas branch was recently kitted out with a new bathroom and tile showroom, while Harold’s Cross opened in late 2023 at the former PLM Heating & Plumbing Suppliers premises.

“PLM had been in business there for 40 years and it hadn’t changed much over that time. We have already carried out improvements to the store which includes a plumbing trade counter within the plumbing supplies, a bathroom and tile showroom, a paint store and a hardware section.

“Having started out with a 1,500 sq. ft. premises in Ballycoolin, we now have 20,000 sq. ft. premises in Ballycoolin and Naas, and 8,000 sq. ft. in Harold’s Cross. We’ve come a long way in 10 years,” the affable managing director proudly states.

“When it comes to bathrooms, there’s no-one else like us,” Keith points out.

“When I started doing bathrooms, I had to go to three or four different suppliers to get my materials. Now, any independent contractors doing bathrooms can come to us and get tiles, plumbing supplies and sanitaryware at the right price. We also cater for cement boards, timber and plaster boards adhesives, and underfloor heating.

“As a sister company of Tileanna, we’re very strong on bathroom and tiles, and even do our own slate trays. Tileanna is a wholesale business specialising in the import and distribution of quality porcelain and ceramic tiles.”

Furthermore, Lacey’s Plumbing & Heating Supplies boasts all plumbing supplies from the big brands and is Ireland’s only direct independent supplier of Bosch boilers. The new Ballycoolin store has a wide range of hand tools on display, while there are over 225 different types of hand tools available to buy online, which is becoming increasingly popular.
