25 Mar , 2026

Mulcahy McDonagh & Partners Ltd (MMP) received an early 75th birthday present recently when it was named ‘Consultancy of the Year – Small’ at the 2025 Irish Construction Industry (ICI) Awards.

Founded in 1951 and firmly established as one of Ireland’s leading Quantity Surveying practices, the 75th anniversary celebrations started early for MMP when it scooped the prestigious accolade at the Awards Gala in Dublin’s Convention Centre on October 10 last. Launched in 2014, the Irish Construction Industry (ICI) Awards recognise, encourage and celebrate original and innovative contractors, businesses, teams, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment.

“We’re thrilled to win this award, especially as we prepare to mark 75 years in business,” MMP Managing Director Kevin Porter enthuses.

“This is a very proud moment for our practice. It’s a testament to our brilliant team, our clients and design team partners whose hard work, trust and dedication make achievements like this possible.

“This award celebrates excellence in project delivery, technical expertise, commercial insight, collaboration, innovation and leadership, along with commitments to health, safety and social responsibility, so it’s a huge honour to be recognised among such strong peers across the industry.

“From a business point of view, it’s nice to get recognition from your peers which helps to raise your profile and bring your name to a wider audience than would normally be the case. From a team perspective, this award demonstrates that hard work and delivering a quality service day-in, day-out, doesn’t go unnoticed! It’s a real team effort.”

MMP’s team of 35 includes a dynamic group of Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, supported by experienced Senior Staff and the Directors. This balance ensures the company remains innovative, responsive and committed to excellence in everything it does.

“I’m a third-generation owner-director along with Stephen Walsh, David O’Neill and Ciaran Byrne, who collected the Consultancy of the Year Award on our behalf,” says Kevin, who joined the practice in the 1980s.

“We also have five associate directors, namely Miriam McCormack, Martin Coles, Fergal Rafter, James Kinsella and Michael Ferriter. They’re supported by a team of Senior Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, Assistant Quantity Surveyors, along with our newly recruited graduate surveyors and work placements. We’re wholly-owned by the working directors who take great pride in the company and are committed to keeping it on an upward trajectory, together with delivering a passionate, professional and diligent service to our valued clients.”

The Castletown-Geoghegan, Co. Westmeath native adds: “We’re big enough to carry out the biggest jobs around, but small enough to care for the smaller ones! Every job is very important to us and treated the same. Even though we’ve continually embraced new technology, we’ve maintained our culture and traditional values of fostering excellence, respect, transparency and attention to detail in everything we do.

“Furthermore, we have a duty of care to the wellbeing of our staff. There is a constant drive within the organisation to learn, support and mentor each other. Every day is a school day. A willingness to learn, respect each other and take responsibility have been central to our growth and success.

MMP continuously pushes itself to be at the forefront of innovation and technology to make its processes more efficient, effective and, at the same time, maintaining / enhancing the quality of service it provides. MMP’s priority is to ensure an innovative, dynamic and consistent approach to deliver its services.

MMP’s expertise spans a range of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including current projects which are utilising light gauge steel frames, timber systems and volumetric modular builds. The company recently developed tailored cost models with KPIs that assess the impact of, and account for, the distinct procurement, logistics and sequencing challenges associated with various MMC methods. This ability to adapt traditional QS approaches to non-traditional materials and systems exemplifies the team’s innovative and flexible mindset, bringing value to their clients and design teams.

MMP has collaborated with clients and design teams on many outstanding projects down through the years.
