Celebrating 20 years in business, Corcoran Construction is a leading building contracting firm in the North-East which has earned a glowing reputation for quality new builds, renovations, extensions and fitouts in the residential, commercial and educational sectors.
The company was founded in Castleroche, Dundalk by Owen Corcoran whose vision and hard work laid the foundations for a business built on quality workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and strong client relationships. A graduate of Dundalk RTC (now DkIT) where he studied Building Surveying, Owen worked as a senior engineer with John Paul Construction before deciding to go out on his own.
That decision has paid off handsomely for the managing director who has successfully completed a wide range of projects across the region, from private and social housing projects to school extensions and retail fitouts. Owen enjoys an excellent relationship with local authorities and Tuath Housing Association, and also carries out his own private housing developments.
Corcoran Construction is proud of its long-term employees who have a shared commitment to quality and teamwork. They are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including Pro Electric, Mullagh Heating & Plumbing, Johnny McGee Plastering, Sitemaster and Global Tiles. Global Tiles are also one of the company’s main suppliers along with Dundalk Building Supplies, Kilsaran, Loughran Rock Industries and Mannok.
Among the architects / engineers Owen deals with on a regular basis are McGahon Architects, John P Masterson Architects and Module Group. From concept to completion, Owen and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs.
Corcoran Construction’s one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Louth contractor’s ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products from local suppliers, this fully-qualified and insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.
“We do a little bit of everything,” Owen explains.
“We carry out a lot of refurbishments for the Tuath Housing Association and fire compliance upgrade works to existing County Council social housing stock. We also build one-off private houses and undertake our own small housing developments. We recently completed an exclusive three-home development at Hamilton Heights in Blackrock, Co. Louth and have another small development consisting of four units about to start in Dundalk.
“In addition, we’re involved in the commercial, retail and educational sectors. We’ve done a number of classroom and SET room extensions in schools. Between everything, we’re kept very busy.”
The Hamilton Heights development was notable for its use of Mannok’s SIMS (Super Insulated Masonry Solution) system. This modern masonry solution combines the high thermal performance of Mannok’s Aircrete Thermal Blocks with a certified external insulation system. The result is a unique offering that surpasses major alternatives on the Irish market in terms of thermal efficiency, structural integrity and fire resistance.
The striking, A-rated three-storey homes feature a New York-inspired design, constructed in brown stone and complemented by rear balconies.
“My dealings with Mannok on this project started from the design stage,” Owen reveals.
“Once we had planning in place, we got in touch with Mannok and asked them how much of the project they could supply. We knew straight away we could use the lightweight blocks, floor and wall insulation on the project and that they could also supply precast slabs, precast stairs, roof insulation and roof tiles. They were able to supply us with the majority of the products for the build.
Corcoran Construction and Mannok collaborated on the quantities required, the design of the precast units and the structural strength.
“Once we had all that confirmed and approved by the architects, it was simply a matter of agreeing on prices, and we found Mannok was as reasonable as anybody. We worked from there on our quantities, ordering through our own supplier, which is Dundalk Building Supplies,” Owen adds.
“From a builder’s perspective, the greatest benefit is the speed of construction; it is really quick in getting the walls up to a certain level. We have used it on several projects before, and I asked our architects – McGahan Architects in Dundalk – to incorporate it into the building because, with all the building regulations now, you have fire control, sound proofing, thermal conductivity, so it meets all of the criteria on all of those things.”
Corcoran Construction’s people are its greatest asset.
“We pride ourselves on that,” says the affable Louth man, whose son Cathal is studying Quantity Surveying at DkIT and may eventually follow him into the business.
“We have a small number of dedicated and diligent employees who are very good at what they do. Most of them have been with me for 10 years or more. When you have a loyal and dedicated team like that, it makes things very easy.
“We strive to do our best on every job and make sure the customer is happy. Satisfaction is always guaranteed.”
As Corcoran Construction continues to go from strength to strength, Owen would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers, colleagues, employees, subcontractors and professional partners for their unwavering support.
