Harrington Electrical Services Ltd have over 33 years’ experience servicing the retail and forecourt sector. Building Ireland spoke to company Managing Director Eugene Harrington to find about one of the country’s leaders in forecourt installation.
The rise of Harrington Electrical Services over the past 33 years has come off the back of the company’s endeavours to make sure that they’ve carried out their work to the highest standards over four decades.
When Eugene Harrington started up the business back in 1983, the mission was to provide a professional service to all clients.
Needless to say, the professional approach adapted by Harrington Electrical Services all those years ago has paid off and with the company now seemingly thriving the Managing Director was good enough to take time from his busy schedule to speak to us.
“We’re based in Deansgrange Business Park, Kill of the Grange in Blackrock,” Eugene explained.
“The company was established in 1983 and we presently have 16 staff employed on a full-time basis. We are fully qualified Compex 07/08 to work on fuel filling stations.
“There are three directors on the board – me, my wife, Tina Harrington, and Jody Keogh.”
Jody Keogh boasts more than 28 years’ experience in the industry and, along with Eugene and Tina, has seen Harrington Electrical Services grow into what it is today –a leader in the installation, testing and certification of forecourt and retail.
Eugene went into a bit more depth about what they’re all about whilst outlining some of the other clients that they work for.
“We specialise in the retail and forecourt sector,” he explained. “We contract for Applegreen nationwide and several independent dealers also.”
“There are over 100 Applegreen Service Stations nationwide and we serve them all.”
“We are the only Compex trained and certified contractors in accordance with EN 60079 in the Republic of Ireland.”
He added: “Along with filling stations, medical centres and pharmacies are another large aspect of our business with several on the go at the moment”.
Rewind back to 1983, when Harrington Electrical Services was born, and Eugene will tell you that they were very different times indeed.
Back before the company’s inception, Eugene had been learning his trade with another electrical engineering contractor and as the economy worsened his new path began to become clear.
Harrington Electrical Services Ltd would be built from the ground up and since that time he hasn’t looked back, having been kept busy working all over Ireland. In the process, the company has earned rave reviews for its work in Applegreen, Texaco, SuperValu, Centra and Spar throughout the country.
“I served my time with Patrick Lynch Ltd and would have worked on Esso Service Stations all across the country,” explains Eugene.
“If you think that the past couple of years were rough, the early 80s was a dark time in this country with the economy, emigration and everything else. I finished with Lynch’s as their business was suffering due to the economy so I took it upon myself to build a company from the ground up.
“The company grew from strength to strength over the years and we have always ensured that we obtain the qualifications and training necessary to ensure that our work is carried as professionally as possible.”
Business is definitely on the up for Harrington Electrical Services. So what’s the secret?
When you ask the man himself why he thinks clients continue to come to them first above other competitors he puts it down to a few key factors, with the quality of the work and after sales service usually being the common denominator.
“I think there are a number of different reasons why our clients choose us first,” he said. “We provide genuine 24-hour service for our customers and we also feel that we deliver exceptional value for money, quality and continuity also.
“Our work is impeccable. Everything’s made easy for the client, we feel it’s part of the reason why they come to us.”
Harrington Electrical Services are certified to the highest ETCI industry standards and specialise in the following; Design and Build, Periodic Inspections, preventative maintenance, Retail Electrical and Lighting, DSA License Inspection and certification, emergency lighting commissioning and testing to IS3217.
