Wolfe Plumbing & Heating is an RGI, Solas & SEAI certified company which services both commercial and domestic clients throughout the Leinster region. Building Ireland caught up with its CEO and founder Karl Wolfe to discuss the ins and outs of the business – from its current projects to its overall hopes going forward.
Coming up on 20 years in business, Wolfe Plumbing & Heating Services is a company which has become known for its reliability, expertise and a team-driven approach to every project.
The business operates with a dedicated team of 15 staff, six vans on the road and has earned the trust of leading builders and developers throughout Ireland.
Since its inception in 2007, Wolfe Plumbing & Heating has gone from humble beginnings to steady growth.
Founder Karl Wolfe recalled the challenges of launching a business during a turbulent economic period when speaking to Building Ireland magazine recently
“The recession hit in ‘08, but I never really had no work. I just went around on my own for the first year and then, after that, I just started building up then,” he outlined.
Despite the recession, Wolfe Plumbing & Heating managed to grow steadily.
Today, the company is handling numerous housing projects across Leinster, combining new builds and retrofits.
“What we’re doing is basically working on housing estates and we’re working for all developers. It’s new builds, housing estates and a lot of retrofits for builders and all that sort of stuff.”
Karl Wolfe takes pride in the company’s track record of completing projects across multiple counties.
“We would’ve done sites in Greystones, Wicklow, Dunlavin and we’re doing sites in Laois and we done a housing estate in Dalkey and Blackrock. This is all in the last year or two, but Greystones was a while back now,” he said.
Currently, Wolfe Plumbing & Heating is operating at full capacity.
“Business is very good. There’s a lot of work ahead of us. There’s more than a year ahead of me right now, which is great. It’s really busy, it’s crazy at the moment,” Karl stated.
The company’s ongoing projects illustrate the scope and scale of its operations.
In Dunlavin, they are working on the third site in the area, named Market Close, while in Mountrath, another project is underway.
“We did a site there in Dalkey and, at the minute, I’d say I have about 40 live retrofits going on. They’re SEAIs and in Mountrath there’s another 60 odd houses going in there and I think in Dunlavin, there’s another 70 houses going on out there.”
Karl clarifies that the company largely focuses on developer-led projects rather than private work.
“All the work is through architects, builders and developers. I don’t really get into doing private work – I don’t advertise and don’t do it for the moment,” he said
This approach allows the team to concentrate on complex, high-quality jobs that require specialist knowledge and coordinated effort.
So what sets Wolfe Plumbing & Heating apart from other contractors in the region? Karl is quick to attribute it to a combination of personal involvement and a skilled team.
“It could be just that it’s me and the fact that I’ve good lads working here. I seem to be able to fix a lot of stuff and help people out. A lot of the builders that I’m working with are the same builders,” he said.
This commitment to maintaining strong relationships with clients has ensured repeat business and steady growth. Builders know that they can rely on Wolfe Plumbing & Heating to deliver on time, with attention to detail and adherence to industry standards.
Over the years, the company has handled a wide range of projects. From new housing developments to retrofit projects for energy efficiency, each job comes with its own unique challenges.
“There are other projects we have that are live, one-off for different builders and developers,” Karl explained. “It’s really about providing a professional service and ensuring everything runs smoothly.”
Many of these projects involve SEAI retrofits, reflecting the growing importance of sustainable building practices in Ireland.
For homeowners and developers alike, these upgrades improve energy efficiency and long-term cost savings, making the work both practical and environmentally conscious.
Karl is optimistic about the future. Over the last two decades, the company has grown incrementally, and he hopes to expand further in the coming years.
“I’ve noticed that year on year, it seems to be getting bigger. So I’m hoping to take on more lads,” he said.
For the company’s founder, growth is not just about increasing staff numbers. It’s about maintaining the company’s reputation for quality workmanship and fostering a workplace where employees can develop their skills.
By investing in his team and nurturing long-term relationships with clients, Karl aims to position Wolfe Plumbing & Heating as a trusted partner for builders and developers throughout Leinster.
The company’s ethos is built around teamwork and collaboration. With 15 staff members and six vans on the road, coordination and communication are key. Each project is approached with meticulous planning, from initial site assessments to final completion.
Karl emphasises the importance of this team-based approach: “It’s all about making sure everyone knows their role and that the work gets done properly. I have good lads, and that makes a big difference.”
This hands-on management style ensures that Wolfe Plumbing & Heating maintains high standards across all projects. It also enables Karl to quickly address any issues that arise on-site, keeping projects on schedule and clients satisfied.
Wolfe Plumbing & Heating Services’ portfolio spans multiple counties, reflecting both the company’s flexibility and its reputation for excellence. From Wicklow to Laois, Dalkey to Dunlavin, each project demonstrates a commitment to quality and a willingness to adapt to the unique needs of each site.
The company has earned recognition not only for its technical expertise but also for its reliability. Builders and developers repeatedly choose Wolfe Plumbing & Heating Services because they know the work will be completed efficiently and to a high standard.
As the business approaches its 20th anniversary, Karl Wolfe remains focused on both growth and quality. With a strong pipeline of projects, a dedicated team, and a reputation for excellence, the company is well-positioned to continue serving Leinster’s builders and developers for years to come.
“I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved,” Karl said. “It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it to see the business grow and to know that we’re making a difference on every site we work on.”
For Karl Wolfe and his team, the future is bright. With plans to expand the workforce, take on new projects, and maintain a focus on quality and reliability, Wolfe Plumbing & Heating Services is set to continue its legacy as one of Leinster’s most trusted plumbing and heating service providers.
