Twenty years is a significant milestone for any construction company, but for Rodney Brady Contracting Ltd, the anniversary arrives at a time when the Cavan-based contractor is enjoying some of the strongest growth in its history.
Founded by Rodney Brady in 2006 and headquartered in Carrickaboy, Co Cavan, the company has evolved from a small regional contractor into a respected main contractor delivering major education, commercial, industrial and residential projects across Ireland.
As it celebrates two decades in business this year, Rodney Brady Contracting finds itself busier than ever, with a healthy order book, a growing workforce and several landmark developments underway.
“It’s very busy. Business is going very well,” Managing Director Rodney Brady told Building Ireland. “The shortfall of labour is a massive issue, but it’s definitely positive.”
That positive outlook reflects both the company’s current position and the broader demand for quality construction services throughout Ireland. Rodney Brady Contracting has established a strong reputation for delivering projects on time, within budget and to a consistently high standard, particularly within the education sector where the firm has become a trusted delivery partner for schools and public bodies.
From its base in Carrickaboy, the company now employs 50 people, a figure that continues to grow in line with its expanding project portfolio. While growth has been a feature of the business over the past two decades, Brady believes the company’s greatest strength lies in the loyalty and experience of its workforce.
“We have 50 staff and some of the staff have been there as long as 15 years,” he said.
That continuity has been instrumental in creating a culture that prioritises quality, safety and client relationships. Many of the company’s senior personnel have progressed alongside the business itself, helping to build the expertise and consistency that clients have come to expect.
The company is currently engaged on a number of substantial projects that demonstrate both the breadth of its capabilities and its continued strength within the education sector.
One of its largest ongoing contracts is a major school development in Lismullin, Co Meath.
“We’re currently carrying out a 16-classroom school in Lismullin in Co Meath. It’s a five-phase project that was commenced in January 2025 and its anticipated handover is January 2027,” Brady explained.
The complexity of the scheme highlights the contractor’s ability to manage large-scale educational developments while maintaining continuity for school communities.
“It’s five phases. It’s a full temporary accommodation, a demolition of a 200 odd year-old school and a reconstruction of a 16 classroom two-storey new school with all the facilities, including ball courts, football fields and bus drop. Its value is €10m.”
The project requires careful sequencing and planning, with temporary accommodation provided to ensure educational activities can continue while demolition and reconstruction work proceed. Upon completion, the school will provide modern educational facilities alongside extensive outdoor amenities.
Another significant education project is underway in Monaghan for Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board.
“In Beech Hill in Monaghan, we have an extension which is an eight classroom two-storey extension on the grounds of the Beech Hill College. We commenced there in October of 2025 and its anticipated handover is in the spring time of 2027. The value of that project is €9m.”
The Beech Hill College development further strengthens Rodney Brady Contracting’s track record in delivering educational infrastructure and reflects ongoing investment in Ireland’s school estate.
While education remains a key sector for the company, its expertise extends across a diverse range of project types. Recent years have seen the contractor successfully deliver commercial, industrial, sports and community developments throughout the country.
One of the most noteworthy recently completed projects is the restoration and renovation of St Augustine’s Hall in Cavan Town, a building of considerable local significance.
“We just completed the restoration and renovation of St Augustine’s Hall, which is the old parochial hall in Cavan Town. Cavan and Monaghan ETB are taking it over as an adult education facility,” said Brady.
The project combined heritage conservation with modern functionality, requiring a sensitive approach to preserve the building’s character while creating facilities suitable for contemporary educational use.
“The front of the building was a conservation and a rear extension went on to the back of it for lift and stairs. That was a value of €2m and it would’ve started for us in August 20245 and we would’ve handed it over in September of 2025 under the watchful eye of Ronan Fitzpatrick, Craft Studio Architects and Fr Kevin Fay at the helm.”
The successful completion of the project demonstrates the company’s versatility and ability to undertake complex refurbishment works alongside its new-build portfolio.
The industrial sector also remains an important part of the business. Rodney Brady Contracting is currently finalising a substantial logistics development in Co. Meath.
“We have just completing a new high-bay warehouse of 145,000 square foot, with 6,000 square foot of offices in Bracetown Business Park Clonee, Co Meath,” Brady noted.
Projects of this scale illustrate the company’s capacity to deliver large industrial facilities and respond to growing demand for warehousing and distribution infrastructure throughout Ireland.
Meanwhile, the business continues to diversify its project portfolio with a major residential development in Dublin.
“We’re also currently commencing 24 new apartments in Phibsborough in Dublin, with 12 more apartments for upgrading and renovation. It commenced in February 2026 and it’s a two-year project for Windsor Developments in Northern Ireland.” RBC have undertaken this 5-storey complex as a design and build project and have partnered with David Cullivan and Iana Kuzmych, Gaffney + Cullivan Architects as design architects.
The combination of new-build apartments and refurbishment works reflects the increasingly varied nature of Rodney Brady Contracting’s workload and positions the company to take advantage of opportunities across multiple sectors.
Over the course of its 20-year journey, the company has completed a wide range of projects including sports facilities, community centres, school developments, warehouse facilities and commercial buildings.
This diversity has helped provide stability and resilience, allowing the business to navigate changing market conditions while maintaining steady growth.
Despite the increasing scale and complexity of projects, Brady remains convinced that the company’s success is rooted in a straightforward philosophy that has remained unchanged since the beginning.
“Thankfully, we’re able to give the personal touch. We’re always on hand if there’s ever a problem with our client and, in fairness, we leave a good quality project,” the Managing Director stated.
That client-focused approach has become a defining characteristic of the company and has generated significant levels of repeat business and referrals.
“We concentrate on safety, quality and budget and it works for us. It’s a model that we took on from the very outset and it’s working for us.”
Safety in particular continues to be a central focus across all projects. As projects become larger and more technically demanding, maintaining rigorous safety standards remains a priority throughout the organisation. Combined with a commitment to quality workmanship and disciplined cost management, the approach has helped establish the company’s reputation among both public and private sector clients.
As Rodney Brady Contracting celebrates 20 years in business, there is a clear sense of optimism about the future. Demand remains strong, project opportunities continue to emerge across multiple sectors and the company has assembled an experienced team capable of delivering increasingly complex developments.
Nevertheless, Brady’s ambitions remain measured and grounded in sustainable growth rather than rapid expansion.
“We’d hope for a smooth trajectory, there’s no spikes needed up or down,” he said.
