22 Jun , 2017

Operating out of Buncrana, County Donegal, Lynch Windows Ltd. deliver exceptional commercial and residential uPVC and aluminium window and door solutions across the north west and beyond. To coincide with the opening of their new showroom and offices in December, we caught up with director Gavin Cullen to find out more about this outstanding family business, which also specialises in curtain walling systems, shop fronts and a lot more besides.

Established at the turn of the millennium, Lynch Windows have – on the back of market-leading products and workmanship – quickly established a superb reputation as a premier window and door systems contactor, delivering unique, high-quality solutions to residential, commercial and mixed-use projects locally, nationally and internationally.

By achieving unrivalled levels of client satisfaction, resulting in a large volume of repeat business and positive referrals, Lynch Windows have seen their influence spread, resulting in prestigious projects being competed across Donegal, Ulster, Ireland and into the UK.

The business enjoys strong working relations with a who’s who of main contractors and is riding the crest of a wave right now; director Gavin Cullen – nephew of founder / managing director Pat Lynch – is confident that they will continue to thrive for the foreseeable future. Consolidation as opposed to further growth is the main objective going forward, he reveals.

Lynch Windows provide a full range of products including uPVC windows and doors, composite doors, sliding sash windows, alucad windows, aluminium windows, curtain wall systems, shop fronts, bi-fold doors, conservatories, roof lights and components and accessories. products and practices are guaranteed, independently certified and insured.

The company has a solid history of growth in the Irish market due to its experienced and skilled workforce, wo excel in providing high-quality workmanship. A genuine one stop shop serving as a single point of contact, Lynch Windows offer an all-encompassing service covering everything from estimation / tendering and project specification and design through to fabrication and on-site installation. All projects are delivered within budget and on time.

Lynch Windows’ polyamide window range is designed to meet the high-performance demands of a modern window, whether casement or tilt and turn. Integral polyamide thermal break sections between inner and outer frames provide the U values required for modern energy-efficient buildings.

Meanwhile, their polyamide door system boasts a high spec that meets all the requirements of a modern thermal efficient door system in either the commercial or residential market. They include integral polyamide thermal break sections between inner and outer frames which provide the U values required for modern energy efficient buildings in the commercial and residential market.

Their traditional, robust shop front door system is guaranteed to stand the test of time. Clients can choose from standard 65mm door stiles, wide door stiles, rebated door stiles and anti-finger trap stiles, while there is a choice of threshold options available including low threshold (for easy wheelchair access), square edged, rebated and drained. The door system is fully compatible with AFG Flush Glaze system.

The ACD commercial door can accommodate numerous fittings for normal and emergency exits. These include concealed overhead door closers, surface mounted door closers, automatic swing operators and various panic exit devices to meet legislation.

Gavin Cullen has been part of the Lynch Windows team since its genesis, joining the family business straight out of college. Reflecting on the steady growth of an enterprise which today generates gainful employment for a crew of 15 full time as well as four part-time employees, he notes that providing a personal touch has been key to navigating waters that were particularly choppy for any company associated with the construction sector:

“We’ve built it up gradually. We’re very hands-on ourselves with the business, which is important. Pat is always on-site and he does fitting himself. We keep a small team and they deliver high-quality work. Clients really appreciate the fact that myself and Pat are accessible and they can come straight to us with any questions they might have.”

Commercial projects currently account for approximately 70% of the work undertaken and – due to the sheer quality of the service provided – Lynch Windows have been taking on an increasing number of prestigious jobs.

“We’ve done a lot of curtain wall systems and automatic doors for LIDL in Ireland and the UK as well as considerable work for Applegreen. At the moment, we’re busy working on the LIDL store in Cabra, Applegreen on the M1 and the coronary care unit at Letterkenny University Hospital.”

Other projects worth mentioning include Talbot Park House, Donegal Town Hospital and SITA Letterkenny.

“We always try our best on every project and that’s why we get so much repeat custom,” Gavin continues. “Thankfully, a lot of the contractors we work for keep coming back.”

What is the key to maintaining this market-leading status? “Being accessible is a big one and keeping our overheads down in order to remain competitive. This includes manufacturing all our commercial products in-house.” In short, Lynch Windows tick all the boxes: they cover every base from design through to installation and are strong on price, quality and service.

In terms of providing a personal touch and not overstretching, the company is now at its optimal size. Gavin confirms that further growth is not a priority: “We’ve been growing since the recession. We had a couple of tight years but we’ve picked up a lot of good work and have expanded dramatically in the past three years.

“We’d like to consolidate now – to stay at this size and keep a close eye on everything and remain in control. We’ve exceeded our own expectations to an extent and the business is already bigger than we ever thought it would be, so we’re more than happy about that.

“Our goal for 2017 is to keep our existing customers happy and to take in some new contracts as well. We’ll keep our service levels high. We provide excellent products and pride ourselves on a really good finish. We tell our fitting teams to leave behind very neat, tidy and presentable jobs and they never let us down. We have great men working here and they play a key role in the success of the business.”
