STS (Specialist Technical Services) was established in 2006 by CEO Eddie Walsh as a specialist testing operation. It quickly broadened its scope to become a full-service provider to world-renowned brand names in the pharmaceutical, information technology, food, utility, medical, hospitality, renewable energy and other industry sectors, and has grown to employ a staff of 700. The company had a turnover of €100 million in 2017.
With two offices in Ireland, seven across Europe and Scandinavia and now also in the Middle East, STS is perfectly positioned to cater for its expanding customer-base in Ireland and the wider European and international markets. In early 2017, the company expanded its European partner network to include D&V Engineering in Belgium, which has allowed it to work more closely and effectively with clients and consultants in the Benelux countries.

“Our preference is to work with large professional clients that expect the highest level of service,” STS Group’s Business Development Manager Liam Linehan explains.
“Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Microsoft are among our best clients. We are a well-established name within the pharmaceutical and data centre sectors.
“The company has recently worked on projects for West Pharma in Waterford, Bristol-Myers Squibb in Dublin and Johnson & Johnson in Cork and Limerick, while in Europe it has completed a large project for pharma giants Sanofi in Belgium and is now into the second year of the large bio-pharma project for Biogen in Switzerland on the back of the Sanofi job.”
STS Group’s commitment to Health & Safety is reflected in its membership of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), The National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and the Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI). The company was awarded the Best New Entry Large Size Organisation at the 25th annual NISO / NISG Safety Awards last year.
“Safety is our number one goal, both for the benefit of our clients and our employees,” Liam says.
“Consequently, as we were working to the highest environmental and safety standards in Ireland and abroad, we acquired accreditation as a Safety Management System OHSAS 18001. We are committed to maintaining the highest level of environmental protection and are committed to zero accidents on all our sites.”
STS Group continually strives to empower its people to be the very best they can be. It recently opened a new state-of-the-art training centre at its Waterford headquarters and is using it as a springboard to develop staff into management positions.
Meanwhile, the company’s apprenticeship training programme is built around young people in the community and is an integral part of its corporate social responsibility strategy. STS Group is proud to engage with and support local initiatives including GAA and rugby teams, and to sponsor local and national charities. It sponsored The Pieta Challenge which saw a group of local hikers climb Mount Kilimanjaro this summer.
On an international level, the firm also supports the Haven Haiti Partnership and provided some of their skilled employees to travel with them to their school build project, Hope House Haiti, last September. The Haven team have been working in Haiti since the aftermath of the destructive earthquake in January 2010 and more recently following Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.
