Sygma Automation is one of Ireland’s leading providers of Building Management Systems and Controls. The company’s commitment to your facility is to ensure cost savings, energy efficiency, optimal comfort and seamless systems integration.
Established by managing director Tim Jones in 2004 with headquarters in Cork, Sygma Automation provides Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management solutions to clients nationwide. It also provides specialised Control Systems (software and hardware) that monitor and control the environment, utilities and energy usage in buildings.
Sygma Automation designs, commissions, manages and demonstrates new BMS installations; optimises existing BMS systems; services and maintains BMS systems; integrates BMS with fire and security systems; produces validation documentation. It also offers remote monitoring.
“We install, commission and demonstrate Building Management Systems for clients in hospitals, pharmaceutical plants, factories, swimming pools, colleges, schools, private houses, large office blocks and hotels. We have a large number of commercial and industrial clients on our books as well as a small number of clients in the residential sector,” Tim says.
“Two of the most high-profile projects we have worked on recently were the redeveloped Pairc Ui Chaoimh and the new One Albert Quay office development in Cork City Centre. As a Cork-based company, we were delighted to be awarded the Building Management Systems contract for both projects.”
Sygma Automation employs a team of experienced BMS engineers who are trained in the following systems: Cylon; Regin; Tridium; Trend; Siemens; TAC / Schneider; GE Intellution Ifix; Lonmaker; BACnet; Modbus; KNX.
The engineers have in-depth knowledge in the GAMP 5 and 21CFR Part 11 directives for the HVAC industry and produce high-level documentation, including: Functional Design Specifications (FDS); Hardware Design Specifications (HDS); Factory Acceptance Test (FAT); Site Acceptance Test (SAT); Commissioning Protocols.
From tender award stage through to client handover, Sygma Automation’s specialised team work with both consultant and end-user to achieve the desired result. They can provide all field instrumentation, control panels and end-user software. In addition, they provide a comprehensive electronic and hard copy of the handover manual, and each project is covered under a 12-month warranty.
The purpose of Building Management Systems is to control the environment of a building in a practical, cost-effective and energy efficient manner. This is not always implemented and is often due to poor maintenance and management of the BMS.
Sygma Automation’s dedicated team will interrogate your system, carry out modifications and advise you on how to benefit most from your BMS (as outlined under BMS Standard BS EN 15232 – The Impact of BACS on Building Efficiency). This ensures maximum cost savings and smooth operations.
It’s crucial that a maintenance plan is in place for your Building Management System to ensure continued energy efficiency and trouble-free operation. To this end, Sygma provides tailored, comprehensive packages that are competitive and reliable.
Many facilities have several different systems installed that are inconvenient and not cost efficient in their day-to-day operations. Integrated Systems can resolve this problem. One supervisor system can communicate with many different packages, including fire alarm systems, chillers, generators and security systems. Sygma Automation also uses this technology for integrating different BMS systems. For example, it can integrate a Trend or Siemens BMS with a Cylon BMS. This is achieved using industry standard protocols to communicate with almost any system.
Sygma Automation can also supply all the validated documentation required by the GAMP 5 directive or specific requirements of the client for the validation and sign-off of HVAC systems. Typical documents provided include Functional Design Specification, Factory Acceptance Tests and Commissioning Protocols.
Some companies require the ability to monitor the temperature / humidity or alarm status of a warehouse or cold room from a remote location. This is achieved using the latest technology in telemetry. The client views the temperature online or receives an email or SMS message to alert them of a failure. Sygma Automation offers a comprehensive solution for such applications that is easily installed and maintained.
Partnering with Sygma Automation guarantees effective and timely communication, long-standing expertise and quality of service. The company adopts strict processes and policies to ensure top-quality implementation, integration and maintenance of your building management and control systems.
Sygma Automation endeavours to promote and develop open communication with its clients and has created an in-house Quality System that ensures each task within a project is carried out in a controlled and traceable manner. Clients benefit from this by receiving a prompt and reliable service. Conducting regular in-house and external training ensures the company remains conversant and up-to-speed with the ever-changing range of products and technologies.
For new installations, Sygma Automation places a strong emphasis on initial training for clients and provides and easy-to-understand operating manual for future reference. This ensures full knowledge and understanding of the BMS systems installed.
Tim Jones has over 30 years’ experience in the Building Management and Controls industry. He was a senior commissioning engineer with a leading controls company in London before returning to Ireland to set up his own company. Sygma Automation’s operation manager Jim Crowley, senior BMS engineers / project managers Kevin Caulfield and Peter Manning, lead design engineer / project manager Philip O’Reilly and AutoCad technician Marcin Sroka also possess a wealth of experience in the industry.
The ISO 9001:2015 accredited firm has a proven track record in delivering large-scale projects from design stage through to installation and maintenance. It has completed projects for Pfizer; Stryker; Mylan Laboratories; Dell; John Cleary Developments, Cork; Microsoft; University of Limerick (Irish World Academy of Music & Dance); Collins’ Barracks; Naval Base, Cork; Dew Valley Foods; Kerry Foods; St. John’s Hospital, Limerick; Dairygold; Mahon Point Shopping Centre; Cope Foundation; Montenotte Hotel and Cork GAA to name but a few.
Tim would like to take this opportunity to thank his staff and all of his clients for their continued support.
