Spaced over two floors and 20,000sq. ft, a large commercial unit nestled in the suburbs of Dublin required the expertise of one of Ireland’s leading multidisciplinary practices MODULE to deliver a unique new gym offering.
Lead by Manging Director Maurice O’Neill and Creative Director Elton Pitt, MODULE opted to capitalise on a number of the existing features of the gym with a mix of eclectic elements. “Our brief was to create a functional space while utilising the knocks and crannies for those that wish to workout away from the crowd while making members feel as connected as possible over the two floors of the project” adds Maurice O’Neill, Manging Director of MODULE.
To achieve the client’s goals MODULE connected both the old and new elements of the project including exposed blockwork walls, raw metal work including bespoke handrails and vertical wall panels to create a chic industrial feel and polished concrete to bring the project to life.
A key standout on this project was the investment into architectural lighting and a high specification audio system which is designed to interact throughout the open plan space across the gym. Every element of the facility was carefully considered in order to create a raw, high end, luxury gym concept unlike anything previously seen. The new state of the art fitness and gym facility is the fourth in the portfolio of the Irish gym chain RAW, with RAW Donnybrook having a completely new look and feel to the other facilities. The unit which is nestled behind Donnybrook cottages includes boutique changing facilities, integrated saunas, bespoke sound proofed fitness studios catering for yoga and spin, and a bespoke box-fit area was all cleverly designed by the team in MODULE.
Founder of Raw Gyms John Kenirons comments “We made a significant investment into the latest high spec gym equipment which is provided across each floor level to provide customers with an outstanding workout experience. Our aim is to make our customers feel like they have entered more than a gym, we want them to have an experiential gym session. The caged boxing area with suspended boxing bags and neon lighting is just one of the outstanding features created by the Module team”.
Joining the MODULE team in February, Creative Director Elton Pitt boasts a hybrid background of design and technical expertise enabling him to operate at the intersection of creativity and technology with brand strategy which was harnessed on this project. Delivering successful projects by deploying the right blend of strategic architectural systems and thinking in commercially effective ways has enable MODULE to secure a host of high value projects for 2020 and beyond.
