Brooklyn Engineering Services’ commitment to quality was a key ingredient in their winning formula at this year’s Electrical Industries Federation of Ireland National Awards. Financial Director and Company Secretary Dermot McNamara was proud to accept the AECI Contractor of the Year award on behalf of the progressive company.
300 people attended the 2019 Electrical Industries Federation of Ireland National Awards which were held in Moran Red Cow Hotel back in September.
The awards recognise and celebrate excellence in Ireland’s electrical sector and those in attendance witnessed Dermot McNamara of Brooklyn Engineering Services receive the AECI (Association of Electrical Contractors of Ireland) Contractor of the Year award from Kelly Becker, President, Schneider Electric Ireland.
Under the guidance of Managing Director Paul Huban and Dermot, Brooklyn Engineering has been providing electrical engineering services within the construction industry for nearly 40 years. In particular, they specialise in engineering, communication, aviation and TEGG maintenance services.
What were the secrets of their success at this year’s Awards? “We’ve been in business for a quite a while now and we’re well-known within the industry,” Dermot McNamara answered. “In that time we have built up a reputation for excellence, quality and quality installations.
“We are known as a quality company that does top class installations and to work in the places we work you have to be at that level. You wouldn’t be working with the likes of Diageo, Dublin Airport Authority and Data Centres, on behalf of Microsoft and Amazon, if you didn’t have a name for quality.
“We are fortunate to get a lot of repeat business and that is because of our name and proven track record when it comes to quality installations. It was our first time to receive the award and it was certainly nice to be recognised by our peers within the industry.”
Brooklyn Engineering have delivered on significant contracts and engaged repeat business with blue chip clients such as Diageo (e.g. at the St. James Gate Brewery in Dublin), Intel, Hewlett Packard, Vodafone, Symantec, Coca-Cola, Sisk Group, BAM, Balfour Beatty, Tara Mines and Britvic as well as international and regional airports in Ireland and abroad including the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) and the Shannon Airport Authority (SAA).
With Brooklyn’s foundations in process control and industrial automation, their business grew to be one of the most respected specialist electrical contracting firms in the industry.
Their capabilities in general electrical contracting and their expertise in more specialist areas provide them with a unique approach to delivering electrical projects.
Their highly qualified engineers and managers work together to deliver services that satisfy budget and time constraints, as well as the particular needs of the customer’s business.

With over 30 years of experience in a diverse range of industries and markets, and with a great deal of international experience, Brooklyn Engineering, as Dermot alluded to already, continually enjoy repeat business from customers who see the value of employing contractors who go beyond the nuts and bolts of the typical installation.
Their Engineering Services division concentrates on delivering high quality projects in industries such as retail, commercial and public sector services while their Aviation division is a leading provider of airfield electrical services including AGL (Airfield Ground Lighting), power distribution, and communications and airfield instrumentation systems.
Their Communications Services division focuses on the design, installation, and maintenance of data networks including fibre optics, copper LAN cabling, and telephony systems.
Back in 2016 Brooklyn were exclusively awarded the lucrative TEGG Service franchise for Ireland. TEGG is a preventive maintenance program to help avoid unplanned power outages etc. and has 110 global franchise locations.

Brooklyn Engineering also provide a range of additional testing solutions such as periodic inspection (fixed wire testing, PAT testing, emergence lighting testing etc.).
“TEGG has worked out very well and is growing all the time,” revealed Dermot. “We have a good team managing it and, as a company, we are very satisfied with its growth. Indeed, we have experienced steady growth across our four divisions. Our key attributes, as a company, are quality, health & safety and satisfying our clients’ needs. Whatever our client wants, we can do. We’ll bend over backwards to satisfy the client’s needs.”
Turning his attention to the future, Dermot is confident that Brooklyn Engineering Services’ graph will continue on an upward trajectory.
“The future outlook is very positive and one of the reasons for that is that we’ve a very young team. We employ 120 people over all and our contracts managers, administration and accounts staff are all young and eager to push on and expand.
“We’ve a young team with lots of experience, many of our employees have been with us a long time, so when any opportunity arises to take on a new project, we won’t be found wanting,” he concluded.
