Established six years ago by Managing Director Keith Lacey, Lacey’s has quickly developed a reputation as a company that can be relied upon when it comes to quality products and competitive prices in what is an ultra-competitive sector. A plumber by profession, Keith noticed a gap in the market during the economic downturn, decided to take a chance and the company has evolved organically ever since then.
“I was working on building sites during the boom but could see the downturn coming, so I started getting into supplying and renovating bathrooms,” he explained. “I was still subcontracting on a couple of sites but when the number of houses being built was in decline, I turned my attention to bathroom renovation.
“I bought a unit in Ballycoolin and put a small showroom in for supply and fit jobs. I employed plumbers and tilers to do the refits, and I would have bought our plumbing supplies in bulk. At that time there were three or four plumbing supplies around me, but with the recession, most went out of business.
“People started coming into me asking for a few bits and pieces and a customer base was built. I gave up the plumbing altogether to sell supplies. That was never the intention originally, but it has worked out well so far.”

“When it comes to bathrooms, there’s no one else like us,” Keith pointed out. “When I started doing bathrooms, I had to go to three or four different suppliers to get my materials. Now, any independent contractors doing bathrooms can come to us and get tiles, plumbing supplies, and the sanitary ware at the right price. They can also get all the cement boards, timber and plaster boards adhesives, underfloor heating etc. Basically, we can cater for all the A to Z of doing a bathroom.”
Lacey’s Plumbing & Heating Supplies, meanwhile, boasts all plumbing supplies from the big brands under the one roof. The range is continuously evolving with the latest products on the market including Instantor copper press and from September they will the carry full range as an approved stockist.
In addition, at Lacey’s Plumbing & Heating Supplies, they offer a nationwide delivery on every order.
“The plumbing and heating supplies side of the business is growing from strength to strength,” Keith revealed. “We would initially have been mainly known for our bathroom supplies, but we now have a commercial division, catering to large contractor’s needs. Our sales representative is on the road servicing this side of the business. We stock all the top brands and supply a growing number of sites.”
When asked what separates Laceys from its competitors, Keith answered: “We’re not like the bigger operations insofar as I’m always available on the end of the phone. I’d have lads ringing me all hours of night and morning! On top of that, the lads working on the counter at Ballycoolin have over 50 years’ experience between them. We’re small enough to care but we’re big enough to offer the right prices and be competitive.”
Keith admitted that the upward trajectory enjoyed by Lacey’s since he opened the doors has surpassed his expectations and he has ambitious plans for further expansion with his team.
“Each month we are growing at a good rate and it’s going well. We opened a second branch in Naas, Kildare, at the start of last year and that is undergoing renovations now to include 20 new bathroom displays for customers to browse.
“With Covid-19 no one really knows what’s around the corner but at the moment, we’re very busy. You take what’s in front of you rather than worry about what’s down the road. I would be optimistic about the future and there are plans to open more branches when the time is right,” he concluded.
