From residential renovations and extensions to new contemporary bespoke one-off house builds and commercial projects, Paul Murney Construction in Kilkeel, Co. Down has got you covered.

While the company has only been trading since 2015, its founder and managing director Paul Murney has over 20 years’ experience in the construction and joinery sectors. He has the knowledge and expertise to take your project from concept to creation. Paul takes great pride from helping clients realise their vision and making their dream home become a reality.

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Paul Murney Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. Throughout the build, Paul and his team of top-class tradesmen are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved. All of their work complies with the highest industry regulations.

Whether your next project is a renovation, extension or new build, Paul Murney Construction’s one-stop-shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The South Down contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects and satisfied customers.

“Our bread and butter are residential renovations, extensions and new contemporary bespoke one-off builds in the countryside,” Paul explains.

“Most of our work is concentrated in the Dublin area where I’ve always found the people a pleasure to deal with and where I’ve made some great friends over the past 20 years. Having said that, we’ll go wherever the work is. We’ve gone from strength to strength over the past seven or eight years which I would attribute to the quality of our work and the trust we’ve built up with our clients.

“We treat them very fairly and are always willing to go the extra mile for them. We treat each project as if it was our own. We’re reliable, we don’t cut corners and secure 99% of our work through word of mouth, which is the best form of advertising.”

The company enjoys an excellent working relationship with sub-contractors and suppliers alike. Paul employs 10 people directly who are a mix of carpenters, roofers, block-layers and groundworks personnel.

“I cannot praise my staff enough. They’re exceptional tradesmen who value quality in the same way as I do. I have two foremen, Christopher McBennett and Damien Cunningham, who ensure that everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet. They’ve also allowed me to concentrate more on delegating the work and growing the business.”

Paul continues: “We use the same tried and trusted sub-contractors for the work we don’t do ourselves, like the electrical and plumbing. We also deal with the same suppliers, including Murdock Builders Merchants, Heiton Buckley, Chadwicks, Stonepave and Roadstone. You need to have reliable suppliers, especially in the current climate when some materials can be difficult to get your hands on.

“By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with our architects and using only the very best building products, we’re able to deliver the highest quality construction to our clients.”

Paul and his team are currently carrying out a complete refurbishment of a 1920s Edwardian-style house at Mount Prospect Avenue in Clontarf. The scope of works also includes converting an underground basement into a games room. The architect is Tyler Owens. Recently completed projects include new one-off builds in Howth and Dundalk as well as a complete renovation of a 1960s home in Raheny. The architects on the Howth and Dundalk projects were PMK and Gearoid McComiskey respectively.

“We’ve just finished a contemporary new build in Howth beside the sea. We’ve also finished a lovely 2,500 sq. ft. bungalow in Dundalk with sharp lines. I would liken the renovation in Raheny to making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. We were delighted with how that turned out and we renovated the house beside it as well,” the affable builder says.

Paul Murney Construction is also engaged in commercial projects in the retail, office and hospitality sectors. Paul is employed by Premier Contracts as contracts manager on their store fit-outs for 3 Ireland nationwide. An award-winning company run by fellow Co. Down man Connor O’Hare, Premier Contracts are leading shop-fitting and interior fit-out specialists who have successfully delivered FM and fit-out projects for some of the country’s best-known retail chains, legal firms, banking and telecommunications companies.

Providing a complete, comprehensive and cost-effective service to all clients, regardless of their size, is Premier Contracts’ number one goal. The Dublin-based company works in partnership with its clients, supporting them with expert advice and innovative ideas on all facilities and property-related matters.

“The fit-out work we do for Premier Contracts adds variety to our job,” Paul explains.

“I’ve known Connor O’Hare for a long time. He has a three-year contract with 3 Ireland who are a good company to work for. We’ve fitted out stores for them all over Ireland. It’s interesting work and I’ve met a lot of people through it.”

Dedicated to quality construction, Paul would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers, suppliers, sub-contractors and architects for their continued support.
