Based in Jordanstown, Lusk, Co Dublin, Eamon Mulligan Building Contractors specialises in house building and extension work all throughout the capital and beyond its borders. Building Ireland spoke with both Eamon and Shane Mulligan to hear more about the ins and outs of this family business and the projects it has on-going at the moment.
These are busy times at Eamon Mulligan Building Contractors and the plan for Eamon and Shane Mulligan and the rest of the team in Jordanstown, Co Dublin is to try and keep things that way right through to next year.
Operating with five full-time staff on its books, the company has grown a reputation for delivering excellent projects for its clients.
Eamon Mulligan has been in the construction game for three-and-a-half decades now and knows a thing or two about building homes, particularly around Dublin which he has called his own home his entire life.
Building Ireland touched base with Eamon and his son Shane to find out all about the business, the secrets behind its success to date and overall hopes going forward.
“We’re based out of Jordanstown, Lusk, Co Dublin and my dad would’ve established it (the business) 35 years ago,” Shane outlined.
“Right now, there’s five full-time working here and business has been very good we’d have to say now.”
The father and son are the two members of the Mulligan clan involved in the business, with Shane himself having come onboard full-time in recent years.
As for Eamon, his background had been as a carpenter before taking the decision to go out in his own with a construction venture and, 35 years later, he’s still going strong with his son now by his side in the business.
“I always specialised in house building but I went into maintenance there for a crowd from 08/09 and then I went back into house building again, mostly in extensions. We always done a few extensions here anyway,” Eamon explained.
“I started off working for Joe Wade Balbriggan as a carpenter and then I became foreman for him. I was foreman for him for four or five years and then I went out on my own.
“I done a few years working in the Juvenile Prison as head of maintenance and transport in it in between.”
Going out on his own certainly came with its challenges at the time but through efficient work, and a reputation for reliability with each project undertaken, Eamon has grown the business into what it is today.
Right now, Eamon Mulligan Building Contractors is immersed in a number of different projects around north county Dublin that are set to see the company busy well into 2024.
“We’re very busy and we have enough to keep us going for the rest of the year and into next year as well,” said the Managing Director.
“We’re building a house in Rush at the minute and another house in Balscadden and we’re just finishing off a big job there in a place called West Town House.
“It’s an old historic building that was being renovated and we came in after it was reroofed, done the inside of it and some work in the gardens and all that sort of stuff.”
Busy times indeed.
All of that considered, the burning question is what has been the secret behind the success of Eamon Mulligan Building Contractors to date?
How has a small start-up grown into a thriving construction business which holds an excellent reputation for its work amongst its clientele?
For Eamon, the proof is very much in the pudding with past projects that his company has carried out and delivered for clients all around the capital.
“We do a good clean job and we’re highly recommended from one job to another,” said the Dubliner.
“People will always check you out and they know they can rely on us to get the job done right.
“We have a good reputation for our work here and we continue to get work here through word of mouth and the past projects we’ve done.”
With the next generation of Mulligans now an integral part of the business, it’s safe to assume that the good work Eamon Mulligan Building Contractors has completed to date is set to carry on for some time to come.
Looking towards the months ahead for the company, Eamon himself is keen to see its growth continue and reputation remain golden.
With some early work for next year already line up, the future looks promising indeed for Eamon, Shane and the rest of the team in Jordanstown.
“We have work into next year and there’s grants there for farmers to renovate sheds. That’s something we’ve done before in the past and we have a couple of those to do,” said Eamon.
“Again, it’s word of mouth because you have one farmer telling the other the job we done for them, so it’s great to have some of that work lined up.”
