17 Apr , 2020

For almost 20 years, BMC Eirco have been providing unrivaled heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions to some of Ireland’s most well-known companies. Building Ireland dropped into their Little Island, Co. Cork head office to find out more from Operations Manager, David McDonnell.

With an industry leading operation and a proven track record for excellence, BMC Eirco provides its customers across Ireland and a number of other European countries with exceptional HVAC&R design, sales, service, installation and maintenance solutions. Established in 2000, the business is built on technical expertise, reliability and customer service. The business portfolio includes mechanical air-conditioning and ventilation predominantly for hotels, offices, data centres, retail outlets, MCC rooms, laboratories, production areas and universities . It also includes refrigeration for process cooling in factories, cold storage warehousing, coldrooms, blast freezers and lyophilisation.

The customer comes first at BMC Eirco with a team that is committed to providing comfortable and clean air through its air conditioning solutions and dependable and efficient cooling through its refrigeration solutions. Backup is always at hand with a 24/7 emergency response service.

Quality assurance with a “measure twice and cut once” approach is everywhere at BMC Eirco and there’s a strict insistence on installing the latest refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technologies. This has assisted the company to go from strength to strength over the years, forging lasting relationships with countless market-leading businesses such as PepsiCo, Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland, JCD, Park Facilities Management, Mater Private Hospital Cork, UCC, Abbeyside & Co, Mavco Building Services, MSD, Pfizer, GSK, Allergan, Janssen and Novartis.

“We partner with the leading industry brands,” confirms Operations Manager David McDonnell. “On the air conditioning side, we are a Mitsubishi Electric Business Solutions Partner and a Daikin D1 Partner. On the refrigeration side we partner with Bitzer, Sabroe, Copeland, System U-Vex, Carel, BAC and CPC. This allows us to provide our customers with the maximum product warranty offered by the manufacturers and the peace of mind in knowing that we are technically competent with their products. Service is a massive part of our business and, as well as the aforementioned brands, we have the capacity to service any make of refrigeration, air conditioning or ventilation system.”

Although they operate predominantly within Munster, BMC Eirco offer a nationwide service and carry out service work for some of their international customers in the UK, Norway, Finland and Denmark.

The company – overseen by directors Michael Barry, Rory Campbell and Kevin Barry have customers from industries such as pharmaceutical, construction, facilities management, technology, retail and manufacturing.

“We have a very broad customer base, from local small businesses to global enterprises such as Amazon and GSK. Our services cover everything from small capacity single split air to air systems to large capacity water to water systems and include design and installation through to decommissioning and disposal. We have Engineers qualified in HC’s, HFC’s and Ammonia and we are fully compliant with FGR and EPA, well ahead of BREXIT.” David confirms.

“We have most of the HVAC&R sector covered which means that we can offer our customers any one of our services, a combination of them or all of them. At PepsiCo, for example, we provide a full package of HVAC&R services. Whatever our customers require, we will provide our service professionally, safely and with excellent value for money. We’ve an outstanding track record in health and safety and invest heavily in keeping our Engineers and their equipment certified for all of the various job tasks. We have high levels of insurance cover for public liability, product liability and for professional indemnity too.”

With the recession that followed the demise of the Celtic Tiger now a distant memory, the market has recovered and David is pleased to report that business at BMC Eirco is brisk at present: “We’re very busy and have plenty of work in the pipeline at the moment,” he says. “With design, service, maintenance and installation, we have a healthy mix of work on all the time. We’re doing a lot of installation work at the moment, predominantly in air conditioning, but we expect to move more into maintenance mode as winter approaches. Reactive service work is consistent.”

Technical ability and excellent craftsmanship is one of BMC Eirco’s key attributes and one of the main reasons why they have both retained existing customers and continually gained new ones over the years. On every new project, they invest ample time and care at design stage to devise the best solutions and work out the optimal long-term return on customers’ investments.

Furthermore, by utilising exclusively the industry’s best equipment and materials in all installation, maintenance and service works, as well as boasting prestigious supplier partnerships, the company is ideally placed to invariably provide the best possible pre- and post-sales solutions. Thus, from the very first point of contact through to ongoing back-up services throughout a system’s lifecycle, the team at BMC Eirco are on hand to deliver service levels that are quite simply second to none.

“BMC have always been known for craftsmanship excellence in our installations and in our service works. We understand that quality in our work equates to ROI for our customers both in system longevity and energy efficiency.” David continues. “That’s why we have been able to retain so many of our customers that have been with us since the beginning.”

“We have very good service level agreements and we respond to calls very quickly and effectively, with seven vans on the road and an excellent crew comprising seven engineers and three apprentices who all regularly re-train and upskill to keep current with technological advancements and industry best practices. For example, we’ve had three Engineers attend Daikin training in the UK this year and have had all our Engineers tested by a third party for competency in brazing. We try to attend the trade shows Nuremburg and London when they’re on too.”

BMC Eirco have come a long way in 19 years, assuming a prominent place as leader in the HVAC&R solutions market, and the signs are encouraging that further growth could be on the cards. “We’re committed to all of our customers in Cork, and we hope to deliver more of our services throughout the country in the future too.” David concludes.
