Ger Malone Plumbing & Heating’s 40th anniversary celebrations started early at the 2025 United in Excellence Awards when it was named the overall winner for the Best Heating & Plumbing Store in Ireland as well as for Best Heating & Plumbing Store in Munster.
Founded in December 1986 and firmly established as the leading supplier of bathrooms, tiles, plumbing and heating in the Mid-West, the family business in the Fairgreen, Limerick was one of the big winners at the annual awards ceremony which took place in The Galmont Hotel, Galway and brought together over 250 guests from across the United Hardware network, including store owners, managers, partners and sponsors.
Awards were presented across a wide range of categories, including paint, customer service, light hardware & DIY, merchanting, heating & plumbing, garden centre, marketing, online presence and regional store of the year. Each store was assessed against rigorous criteria, including independent mystery shopper audits, to ensure that only the highest standards were recognised. A highlight of the evening was the cheque presentation of over €60,000 to Barretstown – United Hardware’s national charity partner – supporting life-changing programmes for children and families affected by serious illness.
Paul Candon, Group CEO of United Hardware, said the United in Excellence Awards are about celebrating the drive, commitment and ingenuity that members bring to Irish retail.
“Their dedication to raising standards and serving their community is what sets them apart,” he enthused.
“Every awardee this year has demonstrated what it means to be a leader in our sector, and together, they are shaping the future of hardware retail in Ireland. My thanks also go to our sponsors – Unilin Insulation, International Ply, Dulux Paints, ECC Timber, Glennon Brothers, Grant, Westland, Irish Cement, Einhell, Triton, Wavin, Brett Martin and Mannok and all our partners – whose support helps make these achievements possible.”
Needless to say, the team at Ger Malone Plumbing & Heating (Ger Malone & Co) were delighted to be honoured with not just one, but two highly-coveted accolades which recognises their commitment to customer service, store standards and community engagement.
“These awards reflect the dedication of our amazing team and the incredible support of our customers. We couldn’t have done it without them. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey,” store manager Peter Malone says.
“We have been serving Limerick for almost 40 years, providing excellent quality products, guidance and advice to our customers. Our mission is and always has been to offer an excellent product range backed by excellent service.
“We cater for the trade and public alike, and pride ourselves on our aftersales service. Our expert staff go above and beyond for our customers, and provide detailed up-to-date product information and advice. We have a qualified plumber who can give detailed advice.
“Furthermore, our newly-renovated showroom showcases the most modern designer bathroom and tile range, while our trade counter staff are always available to help and offer advice. We have a wealth of experience – Louise Daly in the showroom and Martin Donnelly at the trade counter – both have over 20 years’ service behind them. In fact, most of our 13-strong team have been with us for several years.
“In summary, we pride ourselves on our customer service, product knowledge, long-term relationships and our expertise in providing a solution to any problem a customer may have. As a long-established family business, we remain fully committed to providing the best service and earning your business going forward.”
Ger Malone Plumbing & Heating is also renowned for its quality products and stands over everything it sells. The company stocks all the top brands in plumbing, heating, bathroom and tiles, including Irish-based suppliers such as Heritage, Tavistock, Hudson Reed, McAlpine, Ariston, Saniflo, Triton, Sanbra Fyffe, Sonas, South Coast Sales, RT Large, Grant, Firebird, Joule and many more.
“We only trade in top-quality products and that includes our tiles which come from reputable suppliers in Italy, Spain and Turkey,” Peter continues.
“When we sell a bathroom, we can recommend an excellent tiler or plumber. If a customer has an old part that needs to be replaced, we can source it. This often leads to bigger orders from the same customer further down the road. Our focus is always on our customer service, product knowledge and expertise.”
Ger Malone Plumbing & Heating has a proud and successful history going back four decades when it was set up by Ger Malone and began trading in a rented premises in Costello’s Yard, which is now the site of Limerick Courthouse. The company is now fronted by Ger’s son Peter, while his brother Mike is also involved as a sales representative.
