Multiple Award Winning Specialist Contractors, Reid Roofing Systems have opened their doors to give us an insight into how they have sustained a very successful company which has stood as a hallmark for delivering projects of exceptional quality over the past twenty five years. Managing Director David Reid explains
Having originally qualified in Business Studies and Marketing in the early ‘90s, I took the unusual step of training in specialist roofing and cladding in Germany. Multidisciplinary training is somewhat unconventional in Ireland, but in Germany Roofing and Cladding is a Regulated Profession whereby a “Dachdeckermeister” (post-secondary education DSE Diploma) is required to open and/or operate a company there. I returned to Ireland in 1996 and joined forces with my brother John Reid, who had qualified in precision engineering, and we establish Reid Roofing Systems. Training and controlled installations have remained our motto ever since and we have sent a number of staff to Germany for training and we have also brought over specialist trainers to enhance the skills levels here.
By 1999 we were successfully undertaking projects as large and complex as the Edenderry Power Plant, and have since successfully completed a swathe of Pharmaceutical plants to exacting Factory Mutual standard, the Microsoft Data Centre, Guinness Storehouse including internal architectural metal works to the interpretive areas, and the Aviva Stadium to mention a few. We undertake from the very largest projects to small house and school extensions. However the principle of constructing to exacting detail, with the use of the finest materials and master craftspeople applies to all our projects. We deliver all our projects on time, work to a zero snag policy, and we have won multiple awards for safety.
David Reid explained that he particularly enjoys working with Architects, Engineers and clients in developing the design with sharp precise detailing and delivering an aesthetic of practical and enduring value. We view problems as merely solutions in waiting. For example, we designed a solution which allows either the cladding finish or glazing be installed first in a façade, thereby allowing the building to be weather tight sooner, a design which we subsequently patented.
We view our service as being as much about protecting our Client as it is about anything else and for that reason we have developed a strong working relationship with loyal clients. Currently Reid Roofing Systems are undertaking a number of apartment blocks on what is reported to be Irelands’ largest building site, the Honeypark Dun Laoghaire Development, for the esteemed developer Cosgrave Developments, and we are currently undertaking a number of schools, and commercial developments. We are also excited about a project which we are starting in Dalkey shortly for Des Ewing Architects, as the design is exceptionally contemporary, a building of an international award winning standard.
