Broomfield Construction Ltd continues to go from strength to strength after over 50 years in business, a fact demonstrated by its success at the 2024 Irish Construction Excellence Awards.
Operating from Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan since 1973, Broomfield Construction was delighted to be a finalist in the Healthcare Project category for Boyneview CNU and the Leisure Tourism Project – Up to €5 million category for Castleblayney Library which scooped the award on the night. It was the main contractor’s fifth time in six years to be shortlisted, having won the Judges Silver Award for Oceanpath West Pier in Howth, Co. Dublin in 2020.
The Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards) are the original and premier recognition of performance excellence for the contracting sector in Ireland. They provide an opportunity for the industry to showcase and reward best practices across the full range of construction disciplines and project categories.
“It’s quite a compliment to our organization to know that our tireless efforts to construct the finest finish on all our projects is noticed by our peers,” Broomfield Construction managing director Jason Reilly says.
Boyneview CNU is a new 30-bedroom community nursing home situated within St Mary’s HSE Campus in Drogheda. The building was finished to the highest specifications and also involved extensive ground works within the Campus. The selection of materials, workmanship and layout of the building have been remarked upon by the HSE who see it as a blueprint for all future residential nursing homes in Ireland.
The award winning Castleblayney Library is situated at the gates to Hope Castle at the edge of Castleblayney. The build involved a mixture of a new modern extension onto an existing heritage building that was also restored to its former glory. This was an extremely complex project that utilised age-old building methods and materials, and combined them with new-age construction methods to create both a contrasting and complimentary two-section building that worked together seamlessly. The building is now utilised as the main library in the town and has already won a prestigious RIAI award for Public Building of the Year.
Broomfield Construction is currently constructing apartments in Swords, Co. Dublin for Fingal County Council, completing works in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and building a new school in Clones, Co. Monaghan. Over the past half century, the company has earned an enviable reputation as a multi-disciplined contractor and a trusted construction partner in the healthcare, education and local authority sectors. Its main services are: Design & Build; Contract Building (all types of construction); Structural Steel Services; and Modular Construction.
“We mainly tend to focus our efforts on public contracts with the HSE and ETB, but also work with private clients,” Jason adds.
Founded by Patrick Reilly, the Co. Monaghan firm is now fronted by his son Jason who continues to drive it forward. Other key personnel are commercial director Colm Reilly and construction director Kevin Hoey. They are joined by a 54-strong team of direct employees which includes a Health & Safety manager, three contract managers, two quantity surveyors, two site engineers, an accounts manager, eight site managers and 24 site operatives of various job profiles. Needless to say, Broomfield Construction’s people are its greatest asset.
“Our unwavering commitment to complete each and every project to the highest standards, and the determination of our team to deliver excellence at every stage of the construction process, gives us a decisive edge over the competition,” the affable managing director explains.
Close communication and collaboration with clients and other project stakeholders are another strong point as the business continues to bring contracts in under budget and on time. Its team is supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors. Broomfield also enjoys an excellent relationship with its main suppliers DPL in Dundalk, Chadwicks in Monaghan, Roadstone, Wright Windows, Munster Joinery and Pro-Fit Doors & Windows as well as Alan Clarke Engineers, Craftstudio Architecture, Gaffney & Cullivan, DCE Engineers, CMD Architects, CS Consulting Engineers, Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects and Niall Smith Architects to name but a few.
Broomfield Construction has a wealth of experience in the development of schools, community centres, resource centres and medical centres for both government and private bodies. It also has vast expertise in the construction of food processing, factory and pharmaceutical plants, shopping centres – some with car parks – as well as in the renovation of both listed and non-listed projects. In addition, Broomfield has completed many civil works projects, including sewerage treatment and water plants, and major and local roads.
The award-winning company prides itself on its total commitment to providing the best possible service and value to its clients. The quality of Broomfield’s work is reflected in its continuing growth in an increasingly competitive market, and the portfolio of projects over the past five decades are testament to this quality.
Broomfield Construction would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as its own team and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and skill.
