CivilTec: your CSA works partner

27 Jan , 2025

CivilTec Construction Ltd is a young and dynamic company providing design, construction and maintenance services to the data, pharmaceutical and food sectors.

Established in 2018, CivilTec services global clients in Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe, including Tirlán, Kirby Group and a host of private clients. It has grown to employ a 25 person-strong team who are supported and supplemented by a core group of tried and trusted subcontractors.

Operating a state-of-the-art fleet of excavators and plant, CivilTec is an ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 accredited company that has earned an enviable reputation for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.

The Kells, Co. Meath-based operation is fronted by Raymond Carroll, a chartered engineer specialising in CSA (Civil, Structural and Architectural) works in the data, pharmaceutical and food sectors. Hailing from Stradone, Co. Cavan, Raymond qualified as a civil engineer from IT Sligo (now ATU Sligo) in 2007 and has worked exclusively on high-value infrastructure projects throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe within the world’s leading companies.

“I worked with Roadbridge from 2007 to ’13 and then with Colas Ireland up until April 2020 when I decided to channel all my energies into growing CivilTec,” the affable managing director explains.

“In both companies, I learned the value and importance of quality and reliability. Roadbridge was really a fantastic company to work for as a young engineer as the experience was fantastic. Colas is a great company and as a multinational it gave me great experience in the management and operation of a large organisation. Both Colas and Roadbridge were really positive companies with a great attitude to work, they were both solution-focused, innovative and client-orientated which are the values I really focused on when setting up on my own.

“I had set up the company two years earlier as an engineering consultancy, initially doing temporary works for data centres, before branching into construction, design and maintenance. We continue to go from strength to strength by providing a professional, reliable and value-for-money service, we provide all CSA elements.

“We have a large and loyal client-base and we have now built up an annual turnover of between €8 to €10 million.”

Design, Build and Maintenance are the key services provided. CivilTec has its own inhouse design team and specialises in 3D modelling. All CSA works are carried out by an experienced team, while reliable and cost-efficient reactive and planned maintenance works are also offered.

CivilTec works hand-in-hand with Delcross Ltd, especially when it comes to the maintenance side of things. Founded by Raymond’s father Jimmy in 1999, Delcross carries out ongoing maintenance works for Tirlán at their state-of-the-art UHT (Ultra-Heat-Treated) milk processing facility in Lough Egish, Co. Monaghan. The facility has a processing capacity for up to 100 million litres of milk per annum and produces a range of standard and fortified UHT milk and cream products for export under Tirlan’s market-leading brand, Avonmore.

“Between Delcross and CivilTec, we carry out the maintenance and project work, including extension works, for Tirlán across numerous sites. We have three crews dedicated to this. We also undertake work for Tirlán at their Virginia, Drogheda and Ballitore facilities,” Raymond says.

CivilTec also has extensive experience in the delivery of data centres, life sciences and technology projects.

“We’ve have worked and collaborated with Kirby’s on live data centre design projects in Sweden and Italy which was a great experience for us. We’ve also worked for them on projects in Sligo and Tullamore, and have just completed a CSA support package for them in Dublin,” Raymond reveals.

“We’re extremely busy on all fronts at the moment. We recently completed an extension to the Navan Enterprise Centre for Meath Enterprise Board and 800m fully serviced roadway for a private Developer of a new industrial development what will be called Dunshaughlin Enterprise Business Park. We have also recently carried out a new build for Speedwash in Virginia and starting a new project with Dawn Meats in Kilbeggan Co. Westmeath. We completed numerous commercial units and we also carry out works on bespoke one-off houses nationwide.”

Committed to providing a top-class service and complete customer satisfaction, CivilTec has an array of machinery to carry out your civil works quickly and efficiently, including excavators ranging from 1 to 22 tonnes, half a dozen telehandlers, two new 30 ton dump trailers, a JCB Fastrac tractor along with an assortment of rollers, trailers, low loaders and even highly-specialised dust pressure equipment.

In addition, the company has a fleet of eight fully-kitted vans covering the whole of Ireland. All vehicles and machines are maintained and upgraded on a regular basis to avoid breakdowns and downtime.

“We have also invested heavily in GPS and surveying equipment, we have recently purchased a new Hitachi excavator with built in GPS machine control. To which we can now upload all site data, we can make changes in real time to ensure we are always working with the most up to date information. We find this allows us to get the best out of our equipment and is also extremely cost-saving in both time and materials when used correctly.”

It goes without saying that CivilTec’s greatest asset is its people. Its dedicated and highly-skilled team includes project managers Daniel Clune and Jonathan Sharkey, construction manager Declan Murphy, senior quantity surveyor Derek Fitzsimons and Raymond’s brother Oliver, who recently joined the company as a project manager on a full-time basis. His knowledge and experience of the data centre sector has proved to be invaluable.

CivilTec’s commitment to Health & Safety, Quality and the Environment is reflected in its ISO 18001, 14001 and 45001 accreditation which were achieved in 2022. Its fire protection technicians are also fully certified for installation works and fireproofing. Civiltec is certified with the FIRAS UK qualification system for fire protection installations.

In conclusion, Raymond would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work and expertise.
