Work began in May 2024 and was completed over a 12-month period, transforming an existing coastal cottage into a striking contemporary home while retaining the character of the original structure.
“There was an existing house there, so there was an upgrade to the existing house and then there was a big extension out towards the sea. So it was a fairly large extension out to it,” Paraic Folan told Building Ireland.
“The original cottage that was there was kept as much to the older style as it was and then the new extension was a modern extension. It was a 12-month project.”
The project demonstrated the company’s expertise in sensitive refurbishment and extension work, particularly in the challenging coastal environments of Connemara where weather conditions, logistics and site access can all present difficulties. “We have an extension to a medical factory on-going at the minute and upgrade works to a visitors’ centre on the Aran Islands in Dun Aengus,” said Paraic.
“We’ve three new builds on around the area and we’re doing an ambulance base for the HSE as well. We’re doing a factory upgrade in Carna and we just completed a visitors’ centre in Carna as well.”

“I’d say it’s the quality of work that they’re getting at the end of the job and the ease of communication with us,” he said.
“We’re very easy to approach and talk to and very easy to work with and all the lads are the same. We’ve a good team here and if I could find a couple more good lads I’d be adding them to the team as well.”

“We want to grow a little bit, but grow on a scale that’s suiting us so as we’re not growing too quick.”
