Cronin Electrical – incorporating Cronin Solar and Cronin Security Systems – continues to go from strength to strength by offering unrivalled electrical installation, security, solar and automation solutions across Co. Cork.
These are exciting times for the Kilbrittain-based company which recently relocated to a bigger and better premises. Cronin Electrical sees itself as one of Cork’s leading electrical contractors which celebrates 20 years in business next year.
Cronin Electrical was founded in January 2007 by Denis Cronin who began his career as an electrician with a passion for delivering reliable service and top-quality workmanship. What started as a modest operation has grown into a dynamic company employing 88 people comprising eight office staff who ensure smooth operations and customer care alongside 80 electricians, security technicians and apprentices who bring projects to life on the ground.
Backed by a fleet of 26 vehicles, this combination of expertise and resources allows Cronin Electrical to serve homes, farms, businesses and residential / commercial developments across Cork with efficiency, professionalism and care. As a trusted family-run business, Cronin Electrical is renowned for quality workmanship, safety and customer care with services including electrical installations, maintenance, energy-efficient upgrades and 24/7 emergency call-outs.
“We’re growing all the time,” Denis enthuses.
“Each of our divisions – Cronin Electrical, Cronin Solar and Cronin Security Systems – are performing really well. Cronin Solar and Cronin Security Systems have made big inroads into the solar, security and fire systems market since they were launched a few years ago. Out of our 88-strong team, 11 are on solar and five are dedicated to security.
“We have up to 10 solar jobs taking place every week and have doubled our security work in the last two-three months. Having been awarded a number of maintenance contracts recently, the aim is to treble our security business in the next 12 months.
“Our electrician division is also extremely busy, especially when it comes to carrying out installations on building sites for Tier One contractors. We’re turning around 350 units a year and are starting a couple of big projects in Jacob’s Island for OBR Construction and in Blackpool for Walls Construction. The Jacob’s Island project consists of 150 apartments and an underground carpark, while Blackpool comprises 114 apartments.
“Our current projects include 97- and 68-house developments for MMD Construction in St Kevin’s and Knocknaheeny respectively. We also have three sites of 20-30 new homes ongoing for Cumnor Construction. In addition, we have a lot of jobs priced for the second half of this year and for the start of 2027.
“Our projected turnover for this year is that we will grow 10% from last year and we aim to continue to grow year-on-year.”
The affable managing director adds: “When a main contractor partners with us, they have peace of mind in knowing that we’re a dependable and reliable company. We provide the full package, including electrical, solar, intruder, access, gate automation, fire alarm and disabled refuge. We’re a one-stop shop for all their electrical needs.
“We also have eight electricians working full-time on maintenance, so we have a lot going on.”
The main services provided by Cronin Electrical are: electrical installations, disabled toilet alarms, emergency lighting, fire alarms, home automation, LED lighting and induction, and periodic inspections. Cronin Solar specialises in solar PV installations and EV charging infrastructure for homes, farms and businesses. They are SEAI grant-approved, a Finance Ireland partner, and assist clients with TAMS 3 grant applications, making renewable energy solutions accessible and cost-effective. With over 1,000 successful installations and over 100 five-star Google reviews, the team ensures each project is energy-efficient and future-ready.
Cronin Security, meanwhile, specialises in automatic gates, CCTV, intruder alarms, calving cameras, fire alarms and access control.
Denis is in no doubt that the company’s greatest asset is its people, the majority of whom are local. Indeed, this was the biggest single factor in his decision to keep the business in Kilbrittain, which is located just outside Bandon, when moving to a new premises. “So when we moved into our new premises, that was very much in our thinking. We could have relocated to a bigger town or even Cork city, but we owed it to our staff to stay in Kilbrittain, that was a huge thing for us. They give us 100% every day and they’re like family to me. I can’t praise them enough for all they do.
“The new premises is 8,000 sq. ft., of which 6,500 sq. ft. is used for storage. We always make sure we have enough materials in stock to ensure everything runs smoothly. That is something we learned from Covid times.”
Staying on the ‘local’ theme, Cronin Electrical was immensely proud to be main sponsors of the Kilbrittain hurlers on their journey to All-Ireland glory earlier this year. There were euphoric scenes at Croke Park and “we’re still on a high,” Denis smiles.
“We’ve always been proud to give back to our local community. From sponsoring Kilbrittain GAA and supporting our local school and community, and fundraising for charities across West Cork, we believe in making a positive impact where it matters most. Among the other organisations we support a Bandon underage soccer team and West Cork Rapid Response.
“At Cronin Electrical, Solar & Security, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to minimising our environmental footprint, enhancing energy efficiency, and investing in clean, renewable technologies that contribute to a greener future for both our community and our customers.
“We have installed a 30kW solar PV system at our premises, generating approximately 24,000 kWh of clean electricity each year. Additionally, our fleet includes two fully electric company vehicles, which significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. These initiatives reflect our dedication to practical, measurable steps toward a more sustainable future.”
Cronin Electrical is also committed to bringing through the next generation of electricians. To this end, it collaborates with SOLAS on apprenticeship programmes and also visits a different secondary school in the area each month to promote the trade and encourage teenagers to consider becoming electricians.
As its 20th anniversary approaches, Cronin Electrical would like to take this opportunity to thank its valued clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as its team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
