‘Everything from a needle to an anchor’ at Moores Builders Providers

31 Aug , 2021

Based in Newbridge, Co Kildare, Moores Builders Providers stock a complete range of building and DIY products. Building Ireland touched base with its Manager Paddy Percival to learn all about this thriving company – from its origins to the state of business today.

These are busy times for Moores Builders Providers and the plan for the Kildare-based family-run hardware store is to try and keep things that way right through 2021.

Established in 1998, the company is owned by Patricia Moore and has a team of long-standing staff members that ensures the customer can be assisted and advised, whatever the unique requirement.

Moores Builders Providers stocks a complete range of building and DIY products, so whether you’re building a house or an extension, refurbishing or doing some repair work, they are happy to assist you. Its stock also includes timber floors and doors, paint, stoves, garden products, fencing, paving, decorative stone etc., and tools.

Building Ireland caught up with Paddy Percival, who has been part of the business since ‘Day One’, to hear more about the company.

“We’re a small family-run hardware store and we do everything from a needle to an anchor,” Paddy outlined.

“We supply gardening products, roofing, installation and the shop has a household section as well. We revamped the entire store five years ago and it has been going very well for us since.”

Moores Builders Providers operates with 15 staff and supports its local community by regularly sponsoring fundraising initiatives, clubs, sports, and charities throughout the Newbridge area and other parts of Kildare.

Supporting local has always been important to the company since its inception 23 years ago and, going by the state of business at the moment, it’s something that has paid off for the business located on Cutlery Road.

“We had the busiest year in 2020 in years,” Paddy explained.

“We were closed for March with the lockdown but since then it has been unbelievably busy. 2021 so far has been a bit quieter but, in saying that, it’s still very busy here.

“We’re part of the Topline Group here, it’s one of the biggest in the country, and we’ve been okay during the pandemic and, luckily, we’ve had no issues with Brexit.”

It’s all a far cry from where the business started out more than two decades ago.

Back then, the Moore family took over just before the turn of the millennium and since then its business has expanded greatly into becoming the thriving builders’ providers and hardware store it is today.

The second generation of Moores is now managing Moores Builders Providers and the plan is to continue moving forward and keep customers satisfied each and every day.

Another crucial aspect of the company’s success to date has been its membership in Ireland’s largest hardware buying group.

Moores Builders Providers has been members of the Topline Group since 1999 and the membership has been crucial to the survival and success of the business.

Alongside the other 150 stores nationwide that are affiliated to the Topline Group, Moores Builders Providers benefit from its bulk purchasing power, its relationship with the world’s largest independent hardware group, ACE Hardware, and from its ongoing investments in marketing, staff training and merchandising.

Collectively, these factors allow Moores Builders Providers to compete effectively with domestic and international chains, like Chadwicks, Heiton Buckley, Woodies, B&Q and Homebase, and to offer customers competitive prices, better friendly service and a welcoming shopping environment.

For Paddy, his experience with the company’s customers down through the years gives him a unique insight into why he feels they choose Moores Builders Providers ahead of other competitors out there.

“I think customers choose us first because we’re a small family-run store that provides the personal touch for them,” he said.

“We have staff that are here with us 10-15 years and four of the staff would be here since 1998. So, the experience is there and we always try and look after the customer as best we can.

“We have a delivery service with three trucks on the road and three lads full-time that would be covering all over Kildare and into Dublin then.”

Indeed, everyone at Moores Builders Providers works hard every day to ensure that they are there well into the future to serve its valued customers.

Looking towards the coming months, Paddy says the company is keen to stay on its current trajectory in what are challenging times for everyone with the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Hopefully, we can keep things up and running and going well here like they are at the moment.

“You’d also hope that everybody keeps safe and that we see out this pandemic with the vaccine now being rolled out,” he concluded.
