The Chairman of a Northern Ireland builders merchant has been recognised with an award by national trade body, the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF).

Ian Haldane is Chairman at Haldane Fisher, based in Belfast and was presented with the BMF Honorary Achievement Award 2023 at the BMF Annual Members Conference and Awards.

The award recognises his commitment to the industry and long-standing support of the BMF.

Ian said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the building supply industry, making many friends, travelling the world, building a successful business and giving back some of my time to a sector that has been good to me.

“I was somewhat surprised, equally delighted and extremely honoured to have received this award.

“I have been in this industry for over 40 years, currently as Chairman of the Haldane Group, 32 years as Managing Director and six years as a Board Member of the Builders Merchants Federation.

“My direct involvement in the BMF has been both interesting and extremely valuable by way of providing me with a great insight into our sector and in turn I hope I have been able to contribute in some small way.

“The BMF is a fantastic organisation: great for training; seminars; networking, benchmarking and market information and I can only encourage members to get involved as much as you can – indeed the more you put in the more you will get out.”

Held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham, the BMF’s Annual Members Conference and Awards recognises the achievements of individuals and businesses within the builders’ merchants’ industry.

John Newcomb, BMF CEO, said: “Congratulations to Ian on the commitment to our industry and many years of hard work that is recognised with this award.

“BMF membership encompasses the entire building materials distribution industry, and our Annual Conference and Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of suppliers, service members and individuals across the sector.”
