Lakeland Electrical Services – experts in their field

25 Feb , 2022

Lakeland Electrical Services (NI) Ltd is a leading electrical, fire and security company based in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. Established in 2007 by Alan Mulligan, Lakeland’s reputation for efficiency, reliability and keen pricing has resulted in a strong demand for its services on both sides of the border.

Alan and his team of highly-skilled electricians have many years of combined experience within the domestic, commercial, industrial and public sectors. While the electrical installation teams specialise in industrial, commercial and large residential projects, the fire and security division provide a full range of fire and security protection to both the public and private sectors.

Lakeland Electrical Services (NI) believes in delivering a first-class service to all clients. This is implemented by developing a strong professional working relationship with clients from the beginning. The contractor has many long-term clients who use its services time and again. Since its inception, Lakeland has provided services to the industry based on the four main principles of Quality, Safe Working Practices, On Time and Within Budget and Total Customer Satisfaction.

As well as being NICEIC and RECI approved, the company is a registered installer of EV (Electric Vehicle) charging units and is also a CompEX 07/08 contractor which allows it to provide electrical services to filling stations. CompEX 07/08 is the recognised Global Competency Scheme of choice for the major oil, gas and chemical users who want to protect both their workers and capital assets.

Furthermore, Lakeland is BAFE-licensed to carry out design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems, and provides a 24-hour emergency service.

“We offer a full range of electrical and specialist services to domestic, commercial and industrial customers across Ireland. From humble beginnings, we have grown to employ 13 staff and have established ourselves as a leading provider of electrical contracting and maintenance services,” Alan Mulligan explains.

While Lakeland’s services are in big demand these days, it wasn’t always the case. When Alan set up the business, work was scarce due to the economic downturn.

“We started just before the recession,” he remembers.

“Businesses were going bust left, right and centre, but we managed to secure 18 months’ work in Aberdeen which kept us going. We went straight into DkIT (Dundalk IT) when we came back to Ireland and spent a year there carrying out electrical installations for Dornan Engineering.

“We then spent 10 months working on the redevelopment of Monaghan Courthouse for the Jones Group and two years in the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, where we continue to provide PPM maintenance services to Mitie Ireland, which is the facilities management company there.

“These projects got us through to the worst of the recession and we then went on to work for Mercury Engineering and BAM. We’ve worked for BAM for the past six years and have struck up an excellent working relationship with them.”

As the main contractors of the new National Children’s Hospital, which is the most significant capital investment project ever undertaken in healthcare in Ireland, BAM has enlisted Lakeland Electrical Services (NI) to provide a temporary electrical installations service to the massive site in the centre of Dublin.

“Our job is to provide light and power to the construction workers and to ensure they can do their jobs safely and without any delays. We provide 110-volt lighting and 110-volt power for the cranes and lifts. All of our work is carried out in conjunction with the BAM Health & Safety team,” the affable managing director explains.

“We were one of the first contractors to go onsite in August 2018 and will be one of the last to leave it.”

Lakeland is also collaborating with BAM on two other major projects in Dublin. One is a student accommodation development at Sweeney’s Corner in The Liberties and the other is a residential / commercial development at One Lime Street in the South Docklands.

Closer to home, the contractor has electrical services and maintenance contracts with Enniskillen Airport, GT Exhausts, National Trust and Manfreight International to name but a few. In addition, Lakeland carries out annual periodic inspections for the Henderson Group at their Spar stores across Northern Ireland and also undertakes general electrical works for Jones Construction on a regular basis.

Alan is full of praise for his staff who have contributed handsomely to the company’s growth and success.

“Our people are our greatest asset. Good staff are very difficult to come by, but we have been very lucky in that regard. Our electricians are professional, reliable and dedicated. They take great pride in their work. We treat it as a family business. Everyone has a role to play and it’s a team effort at the end of the day.

“We place a strong emphasis on training and upskilling, and take on apprentices annually. When I take on an apprentice, I take on someone who is passionate and wants to be the best electrician he can be.”

With an end to the COVID-19 crisis in sight, Alan is hoping that the price of basic materials will come down and ease the burden on everyone.

“When you see cable prices increasing by 47% since December, you know there’s something not right. It makes pricing difficult, but hopefully things will settle down soon and get back to normal,” continues the Fermanagh native, whose business has developed an outstanding reputation for the safe delivery of projects on time, on budget and to an exceptional standard.

Lakeland Electrical Services (NI) would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their continued support. Whatever your electrical needs, be sure to give the Lakeland team a call.
