Leetherm’s decade of growth

18 Oct , 2018

Since its inception in 2008, Leetherm has quickly grown to become a leading energy expert across the south of the country. Building Ireland learned more from Construction Manager Michael Heffernan about the Tipperary-based company.

Business has been good as of late at Leetherm and Michael Heffernan and co are intent on keeping things that way out in Fethard, Co Tipperary.

Leetherm is a nationwide firm which offers honesty, commitment and quality workmanship for its clientele and is basically a one-stop shop with regards to the domestic energy environment.

This burgeoning company has adapted and moved with the times after having initially started out providing a cavity and attic insulation service, as well as external insulation.

Now it employs 35 staff, including Construction Manager Michael Heffernan, who has been with the company since 2010 and was good enough to take some time to outline to Building Ireland what they’re all about.

When the Leetherm Group began its journey 10 years back, it was founded by current Managing Director Ken Lee, who formed Leetherm Insulation. The company began by offering insulation, ventilation and airtightness solutions for new builds, existing homes and commercial buildings.

Come 2010, Leetherm would start offering heating systems solutions to its customers and since then the business has grown itself into one of the leading energy efficient, building upgrade companies in the Munster/Leinster region.

As the company developed and the calibre of experienced management staff greatly increased within the company, Leetherm started carrying out and project managing, complete building refurbishments, new builds and extensions in 2011.

As Leetherm’s reputation grew within the construction industry, the firm won successful contracts on larger scale schools and housing projects which led to formation of Leetherm Construction.

They now have a wide variety of experience across various sectors of the construction industry and continuously strive to deliver excellent quality buildings to their clients, on time, within budget and most importantly in a safe manner.

Michael makes no secret of the fact that business has been booming lately out Fethard way.

“Business has been very good,” the company’s Construction Manager beamed. “We’ve found that things have really picked up.

“We just started a project in Tallow for Waterford City & County Council, which involves the refurbishment of existing cottages, the building is a protected structure being upgraded and renovated to remain as a residential building and we also have a 500-house energy efficient upgrade project in Tipperary which is just coming to a completion for Tipperary County Council.

“At the beginning of 2018, we completed a project for Oakley Housing Association in Laois where we refurbished & completed 11 timber frame houses that were built 10 years ago but never finished and were left at various stages of completion.”

Because Leetherm is a one-stop shop, they believe in keeping things simple – even the changing complexities of the domestic energy environment, project management and construction.

Where practicable, Leetherm try to provide one point of contact and always conduct a thorough survey, on which they base their advice on the options open to the client.

The company has degree qualified staff in a number of construction related fields and very experienced qualified tradesmen working hand in hand to ensure that the customer gets the best service possible. Their combined skill crosses all the trades – they have seen it all before.

The team at Leetherm know what the regulations require and they can put together the solutions needed for your improvement programme, insulation, building project etc.

The Leetherm team got some exposure on a national scale this past March when they were the builders on a project in Co Tipperary which was a part of the RTE series ‘Room To Improve’.

The project saw dairy farmer Padraig and school teacher Katie looking to create their ‘forever’ home by renovating a century-old farmhouse on a half-acre of land recently inherited from Padraig’s uncle.

“Room To Improve was a big thing for us and it has attracted a lot of new customers,” Michael was glad to report.

“It was aired in March of this year and it has gotten a very good response since. We’ve already received a number of projects directly due to the show, so we’re quite happy with how it went.”

Indeed it all seems to be moving in the right direction for Leetherm a decade on from its inception.

As alluded to earlier, the company is a one-stop shop when it comes to the domestic energy environment.

The services provided by Leetherm include heating system upgrades, insulation solutions, ventilation solutions, radon testing & remediation, all of which have many different aspects to them.

Having such a broad range of services is a huge part of the reason why Leetherm’s clientele choose them first ahead of other competitors, according to Michael.

“We’ve a lot of trades working internally for us,” he said. “We can cover the trades ourselves – we do all that in-house ourselves. It stops someone having to deal with a number of different companies.”

‘Care, confidence and the customer’ are the three key attributes that make Leetherm different, according to the company’s website, and they are another part of the reason for the continued growth of their client list down through the years.

Looking towards the years ahead, Michael says he’s hopeful that the growth will continue at Leetherm with the company having quickly become a leading energy expert across the south of Ireland.

“We want to continue building the construction company as is,” he said. “Expansion has been happening on an on-going basis. If we can keep going the way we’re going we will be very happy.”

Whether you want to future-proof your home or business, extend or renovate, improve your energy rating or simply to upgrade the current investment in your daily environment, Leetherm have all the experience you need.
