The Power Fix Electrical family in Clane, Co. Kildare has just got a whole lot bigger with the addition of two new sister companies in Fire Fix & Safety Ltd and Solar Fix Renewables Ltd.
The new standalone companies have evolved from Power Fix Electrical Ltd and owner Seamus Cash’s desire to provide an all-encompassing service to his clients. Fire Fix & Safety Ltd and Solar Fix Renewables Ltd will not only complement the parent company, but also lead to the creation of additional jobs within the successful family-run business which already employs 20 people.
Specialising in full electrical installations on residential developments, Power Fix Electrical was formed as a limited company in 2018 by Seamus – who has worked in the electrical industry for almost 30 years – in conjunction with his wife Sharon. Over the past eight years, Seamus has expanded upon his exceptional track record for electrical installation, upgrade and maintenance excellence by delivering a series of high-quality top-to-bottom installations on numerous residential developments across counties Dublin, Kildare, Laois and Wicklow.
“Our goal is to become a one-stop shop under three different entities,” Seamus says.
“All three will work hand-in-hand with Power Fix as the mothership company. We want to provide a complete service and to keep as much work as possible inhouse. Up until now, we have used subcontractors to do the work Fire Fix & Safety and Solar Fix Renewables will be doing.
“Fire Fix & Safety is already up-and-running and has got off to a good start. It is a fire alarm and emergency lighting specialist incorporating design, install, commission, and service. Solar Fix Renewables will specialise in the installation of PV panels and EV chargers in houses. It is at a later stage of development to Fire Fix, but we have already completed all the courses on how customers can avail of SEAI grants and are also getting lots of enquiries.”
The affable Kildare man adds: “Our fully qualified electricians will cater for all three divisions. We have the bodies and are ready to go.”
Seamus is confident that he can build on the good name of Power Fix Electrical with his new ventures. Power Fix Electrical has firmly established itself as one of Leinster’s leading electrical contractors and can count Durkan New Homes, ClearyDoyle, Formation Homes, Neville Homes and Westin Homes among its impressive list of clients.
The reason why Power Fix Electrical benefits from such a steady volume of repeat business from prestigious clients is clear: their reputation for excellence precedes them.
“It all comes down to the quality of the workmanship and reliability. The same clients are coming back to us time and time again because they know they can depend on us to carry out the work on time and to the very highest standards,” Seamus explains.
“We pride ourselves on providing excellent service and that’s why they call me every time they are starting a new site. They know from past experience that the quality and reliability will be there. Customers deserve excellent service and dependability, and they know they can trust us to come in and do a good job every time.”
With a strong emphasis on teamwork and through a partnership approach with its clients, Power Fix Electrical always delivers a quality end-product.
“By employing highly skilled people, working closely with our clients and using only the very best electrical products, complete customer satisfaction is guaranteed. We have a great team who have been very loyal to us down through the years.
“With the systems we have in place, they are happy out. We provide them with company vans, the best power tools, flexible holidays and bonuses – they are well looked after and that results in loyalty and continuity. They are all experienced lads who are with me long-term, we bring through our own apprentices, and we’ll be adding to the team once the new companies are fully operational.”
The Safe Electric approved contractor has come a long way since he started out as a sole trader as Seamus Cash Electrical during the economic downturn in 2010.
“Starting out in a recession, you fought hard to get your contacts back then and that stands to you going forward,” Seamus recalls.
“I left school aged 15 and joined T O’Reilly Electrical Wholesalers. That’s nearly 30 years ago. I spent a few years there and they offered me the position of store manager, but I decided to go off and start my apprenticeship instead and I qualified at 22. I was made redundant in 2008, six months after we built our home, and I felt the best option at that stage was to go out on my own.”
He continues: “It took a lot of hard work and grafting to get to where we are now. Residential housing is our main gig. We carry out complete installs on between 200 and 250 houses per year in housing developments in counties Laois, Kildare, Dublin and Wicklow. On top of that, we also take on a number of one-off private new builds and extensions – maybe 15 to 20 of those per year. While residential is our bread and butter, we take on some light commercial work as well – hotel extensions, office blocks, etc. We can deliver any type of project and have enough manpower to be very flexible.
“Because we have separate crews, we can work on different jobs at the same time. I have a number of crews for first fixing and for second fixing, and then another crew for testing and commissioning. Some of the housing schemes could have two or three years’ work in them.”
Two such schemes are Magee Barracks in Kildare town, which consists of 420 units (300 houses and 120 apartments) and is being developed by Formation Homes, and Kilternan Village, which is a 500-unit development being delivered by Durkan New Homes.
“We’re also finishing Ard Valley, which is a block of apartments in Cabinteely, for Neville Homes, and are also starting a 100-unit development for them in Newbridge. In addition, we are currently wiring a new housing scheme for ClearyDoyle in Portlaoise and a high-end development in Enniskerry for Westin Homes.
“Needless to say, we’re very busy and enjoy an excellent working relationship with all of our clients.”
As Power Fix Electrical continues to go from strength to strength, and Fire Fix & Safety and Solar Fix Renewables prepare for lift-off, Seamus would like to take this opportunity to thank his industry partners for their unwavering support as well as his dedicated crew for their hard work and expertise.
