O’Keeffe Civil Ltd is a leading civil engineering and groundworks company based in Co. Wicklow that is focused on delivering a quality service. As a contractor with a wealth of experience in the industry, safety and complete customer satisfaction is paramount.

Of farming stock, Myles O’Keeffe was barely out of his teens when he started out as a sole trader in 2006. In August 2014, O’Keeffe Civil became a limited company and has continued to go from strength to strength. Operating from the village of Knockananna on the Wicklow-Carlow border, the company prides itself on the excellent relationship it enjoys with its clients, supply chain and associates. With a strong management team and skilled workforce, O’Keeffe Civil Ltd ensures that all projects are delivered safely, on time and on budget. By placing a major emphasis on staff development and training, a high-quality service is assured.

O’Keeffe Civil Ltd currently employs 25 staff who and are trained in CSCS (machine tickets), manual handling, LUGS (locating underground services), first aid, sign lighting and guarding, mobile scaffolding tower and confined space. Myles runs the company along with his wife Karen, who looks after the administration side of things. David Grehan is employed as a quantity surveyor and in the office as well, while there are foremen and site supervisors assigned to every job.

“We are blessed with the team we have because good staff are hard to come by in this business. When you take on new staff, you don’t know what their capabilities are until they’re fully trained up. We have good guys who have been with us since we started 11 years ago,” Myles explains.

Services provided by O’Keeffe Civil Ltd include site development, enabling / temporary works, demolition and bulk excavation. Delivering challenging projects in the public and private sectors, site development continues to lead the way in proficient project delivery. Regardless of the form of procurement, the contractor works closely with its clients to identify their needs and provides a consistent team leadership in its service, delivering bespoke solutions irrespective of the project size or complexity. Clients are provided with dedicated teams who implement the company’s health and safety, environmental and economic sustainability policies in order to deliver complex and innovative projects across all sectors.

Site development encompasses sub-structure works, surface water sewers, road construction, foul sewer, utility services, land drainage, kerbing and paving.

O’Keeffe Civil Ltd offers a wide range of enabling services for the most challenging of sites, including site set-up, remedial works, signage and hoarding, site investigations, service diversions, sheet piling, Kingpost system, structural steel propping and underpinning.

The company also covers all aspects of demolition, from internal strip-outs to complete demolition of multi-storey buildings. As well as providing method statements, O’Keeffe Civil Ltd ensures that the maximum amount of materials is recycled in the most efficient manner possible.

The contractor can cater for any size of excavation and disposal to licensed facilities. With a strict environmental policy in place, traceability of all loads within the EPA guidelines is ensured. The company caters for all your contaminated soil, bulk excavation, rock excavation and cut and fill earthworks needs.

It goes without saying that O’Keeffe Civil Ltd is committed to the highest standards in health and safety to ensure the wellbeing of its employees.

“We are a safety conscious company and ensure that all our employees are fully versed in the relevant method statements, risk assessments and site specific safety statements prior to and during the construction process,” the 31-year-old managing director says.

O’Keeffe Civil Ltd offers a wide range of plant equipment for hire, including excavators, dumpers, rollers, compressors and compaction equipment.

“We have 12 diggers, seven dumpers, two trucks, seven vans and a selection of trailers and other equipment. Our Hitachi and Yanmar diggers range from three to 22 tonne. We try to keep our machinery as fresh as possible so as to ensure there is no downtime caused by breakdowns,” Myles adds.

The company takes great pride in all the projects it undertakes, no matter how big or small. Working mostly in the Dublin and Leinster area, it has successfully completed numerous projects over the past decade. Some of the more recent ones it has worked on include private houses in Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, Herbert Park, Ballsbridge and Herbert Park, Ballsbridge, Stanhope Street School in Dublin, Arklow Library, Facebook Grand Canal Square, UCD student accommodation, Bird Avenue, Clonskeagh sports pavilion, Wingfield residential development in Bray, residential developments in Lucan and Foxrock, Ballymun Boiler House and Newvale Shankill roadworks.

Currently, O’Keeffe Civil is carrying out major groundworks projects in Dundrum, Thomas Street and Davitt Road.

Myles explains: “We are bringing a housing development in Dundrum up to ground floor level for the main contractor, BM Durkan. We’re also looking after all the groundworks for a 360-bed student accommodation development in Thomas Street and for the new national ambulance base on Davitt Road in Drimnagh, which will be handed over to John Paul Construction and Purcell Construction respectively on completion.”
