“The future looks bright”

26 Sep , 2017

Edmund Lavin Services Ltd of Castlebar, Co Mayo has carved a niche for itself in the ultra-competitive construction sector. Managing Director Edmund Lavin has laid solid foundations and has overseen significant growth in recent times. They now have big plans for the future and have invested in a lot of plant and equipment in the last two to three years to cater for what they see as being a busy period ahead.

The Irish construction industry continues to rise at a fast pace and strengthening customer demand is one of the main factors behind an increase in activity.

Commercial is the strongest performing activity but housing continues to expand at a very rapid rate and the sector’s outlook is very favourable, with improving economic conditions, strengthening client demand and plans for business expansion cited as important sources of support.

There is a confidence about future prospects amongst the many companies operating across the industry and Edmund Lavin Services Ltd, with a head office in Castlebar, Co Mayo and a regional office in Dublin, is no exception.

Specialists in general groundworks, general building works, housing development, demolition and plant hire, Edmund Lavin Services Ltd’s primary goal is to provide all of their clients with the highest standard and quality of workmanship and to establish long lasting relationships by exceeding their expectations, a policy which Edmund Lavin Services Ltd feels is a reason for their repeat business with some of the largest main contractors in the country.

By maintaining the highest levels of professionalism in their dealings with their clients, their aim is always a finished project that is completed both on time and within budget.

Edmund Lavin Services has worked on many prestigious buildings and projects in Ireland  including St Joseph’s Secondary School, Tulla, Co. Clare, St. Mary’s Secondary School, Dundalk, Co. Louth, Lusk Detention Centre, Co Dublin, Millstreet Student Accommodation, Dublin, Adare Manor redevelopment, Shannon Airport runway upgrade and Mercer Institute for Successful Aging at St. James Hospital, to name but a few.

Their current busy workload consists of jobs at Adare Manor Hotel  and Golf Resort, Co Limerick and the University of Limerick as well as a housing refurbishment in Dublin and water main replacement work in the capital and surrounding areas and waste water treatment facility works in Tourmakeady Co. Mayo and Co. Kilkenny

A qualified carpenter by trade, Managing Director Edmund set up the company back in 2006 and operated as a sole trader until September, 2012. It’s fair to say that the company has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

The economic recovery has started to take hold beyond Dublin’s boundaries and with 60 skilled and dedicated employees on its payroll, Edmund Lavin Services Ltd is well positioned to take advantage of that.

“This year we would be hoping to achieve a turnover of between €10m and €12m,” Edmund revealed to Building Ireland. “Next year we’d be targeting a turnover of up to €20m and we’re optimistic that we will be able to achieve such turnover due to the amount of potential work in the pipeline at the moment and the fact the market looks extremely positive for the future.

“As a company we have grown a lot in recent times, particularly in the last six months. We’ve jumped from 35 to 40 employees to 60 in that short space of time. We’re busier now than we’ve ever been and we’re not relying on the west of the country. We work all over Ireland, from Limerick to Kerry to Dublin and have also completed jobs in Northern Ireland.”

Edmund Lavin Services Ltd own all their own plant and resources include excavators from 0.5 tonne to 50 tonne, specialist demolition equipment, A25 and A40 dump trucks and 8 wheeler tipper lorries.

Their 60 strong dedicated workforce is made up of machine operators, steel fixers, carpenters, drivers, pipe welders and onsite management staff consisting of their own Project Managers and Setting out Engineers who are all supported by an office based management staff.

“The plant hire side of things is always busy too. As it is, we don’t have enough plant. We could have twice as much and we’d still be busy, hence our plans to invest further in our plant resources with a particular emphasis on more specialist equipment.”

Above all, the team at Edmund Lavin Services try to ensure that every customer they deal with is 100% satisfied and if there is any problem, large or small, they have always tried to resolve it to the best of their ability to the customer’s satisfaction.

“Price is number one with us,” Edmund remarked, “while we feel we give a good service and deliver projects on time which is paramount to client needs. We pride ourselves on the quality of work and, as a result, we enjoy a lot of repeat business. We tend to work a lot with the same contractors so they must be happy with our work or else they feel we’re too cheap!”

Not content to rest on their laurels, Edmund Lavin Services Ltd have plans to expand in the future.

Michael Lavin, responsible for developing projects in the UK market, said: “We’re constantly looking at projects in the UK with some of our Irish clients.

“It is our intention going forward to focus on the UK market. We have in recent days secured a contract for a commercial site development project in North London consisting of a 2 storey basement excavation and general site excavations and rock breaking works, consisting of about 35,000m3 of material to be removed.

“We’re in discussions at the moment with some UK contractors on other potential projects as well. The future looks bright, we certainly can’t complain about the current state of the market,” he concluded.
