The service providers

7 Nov , 2018

The electrical industry is one of the most complex trades out there. With so many services to cater for, it can be difficult for a company involved in this sector to cover all of those services.

To be able to do so, a business has to have a number of factors including experience, a reliable work force and an ability to deliver to the client’s expectations on every project.

For this month¹s edition of Building Ireland, we profile one such company that ticks all of the above boxes.

Robert Hassey Electrical Ltd was established in 2003. Based in Davidstown, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, this company has built quite a reputation for delivering on excellence and they have set a high standard for themselves and their clients over the years.

Robert had a number of years¹ experience in the industry before establishing his own business alongside his wife Dolores who looks after the administration these days.

The company covers every aspect of electrical contracting with all quotations and advice coming free of charge. As expected, they are RECI approved, while all work and wiring is carried out to the current ETCI Wiring Rules & Regulations.

Working in the domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors means that Robert and his team are providing a wide range of services as stated.

“In the domestic sector, we would carry out work on new house builds, extensions, rewiring, maintenance, security systems, garden and driveway lighting, heating and lighting system controls, multi room audio systems and home automation systems,” said Robert.

“On the commercial side of the business, we would be involved in the development of retail units, office fit-outs, créche and childcare facilities, hotel maintenance, sports complexes, sports field floodlighting and general maintenance contracts.

Our industrial services include  factory installations and maintenance; light engineering workshops, industrial maintenance, motor control panel building and maintenance as well as manufacturing installations.

“We also provide services for the agricultural industry and these include milking parlours, slatted units, farmyard maintenance and out farm ESB connections and electrical installations.”

Maintenance plays a big part in the company¹s daily workload and Robert revealed that they have a very good customer base in this sector.

“Maintenance work kept us going through the recession, that and the strength of our customers got us through.

“One of the biggest customers that we have, is Solar Electric, which is Ireland’s leading solar PV company. We have a good working relationship with them and I would have a crew with them all the time. This work brings us all over the country working in the domestic and commercial markets.

“Another good customer of ours on the maintenance side of the business is the Griffin Hotel Group and we would carry out a lot of maintenance in two of there Hotels, Ferrycarrig & Monart.”

Other good clients that Robert Hassey does a lot of work for are Colm Byrne Civil & Building Contractor, Mick Berry Bawn Developments, Peter Roche Construction, Tony Cronin Tomsallagh Developments, Tony Cronin Shearflint Engineering, Reynaers Aluminium, Custom Compost Gorey & many others.

“I’m fortunate to have a good customer base. They expect a quality service from us and that is what we strive to achieve every day.”

The company employs ten people some of who have been there since the genesis of the business, while Robert added that he has placed a greater focus on apprentices in recent years.

“At the moment, there are five qualified electricians, two general labourers and three apprentices on the books. Two of the lads would be with me from the start, while another lad that served his time with me before setting up his own business and we would work closely together on projects.

“Skilled workers are hard to come by these days as many either left the country during the recession or changed careers. So I decided if I took on more apprentices, I could train them to my standard and I¹m happy with the

outcome so far.”

Security systems are an area that Robert has great experience in and aside from your standard services such as burglar alarm systems, security lighting systems, fire alarm systems, access control and gate automation, they also

provide CCTV systems analogue and IP.

There is no doubt that Robert Hassey Electrical Ltd provide an efficient and reliable service, which they continuously look to maintain and even improve where possible.

Robert stated that even though he has no major plans to expand the business, he did reveal that they were exploring other areas that they are keen to be involved in.

“I do think that electric vehicle car charging points will become more common over the next few years and it is something that I am actively looking into.

“Business wise, we would be hoping to stay the way we are and continue to work with the clients that we have. There have been huge changes in the industry over the years and we have managed to move with the times and the aim is to ensure that we continue to move with them.”
