Castletownbere Construction – Synonymous with quality construction

24 Oct , 2024

Castletownbere Construction Ltd is a long-standing family-run building firm specialising in new builds, extensions, renovations and refurbishments in both the private and public sectors.

Providing a full range of services, Castletownbere Construction are the residential, commercial and industrial building experts in West Cork and Kerry. The company has earned an enviable reputation for quality construction in the region and continues to go from strength to strength by offering an unrivalled service.

Boasting a wealth of experience, Castletownbere Construction builds superb, high-quality homes. It also had extensive experience in building commercial and industrial units, relying on strong business values and meeting the highest standards of construction and safety practices to do so. Furthermore, the company provides quality and affordable refurbishment. It has worked on many different properties over the years and understands that each project is unique.

Castletownbere Construction is run by the O’Sullivan family who have a long and proud history in the industry. Its origins can be traced back to the 1950s when John ‘Darb’ O’Sullivan returned from the UK to set up John M O’Sullivan & Sons in the West Cork fishing village. His sons JJ and Paudie both had stints in the business before younger son Miah (Jeremiah) took up the reins.

Miah is joined by a small but dedicated team which includes his wife Ann, nephew Kieran O’Sullivan, Caroline O’Sullivan, Martynas Jonusas and David McCarthy. They are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including plumbers James Healy and Diarmuid Dudley, and electricians Aidan Harrington, Deane & Young, Blocklayer Mikey O’Shea & Plasterers O’Brien Brothers.

“Ann and Caroline are both in the office, Kieran is involved in Health & Safety and looks after a lot of the paperwork for us, while Martynas and David are out on site,” Miah explains.

“We’re your typical small builder who can do everything from building a warehouse or factory to repairing a slate. No job is too big or too small. While the company was founded in 1988, we’ve been in the business for a lot longer. My older brothers JJ and Paudie were involved at one stage, but now run JJ O’Sullivan Estate Agents and Berehaven Enterprises respectively.”

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Castletownbere Construction. The company is fully insured and compliant with all Health & Safety regulations, and is a member of both the CWPS and Homebond. From concept to completion, the team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Whether your next project is a new build, extension or refurbishment, Castletownbere Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The West Cork contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from designer teams and scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with its engineers and architects, and using only the very best building products, the company is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients. Its main suppliers are Harrington’s Homevalue in Castletownbere, Topline Murphy & O’Connor in Bantry, Harrington Plant Hire in Castletownbere, Noel Donegan Plant Hire in Castletownbere and Drimoleague Concrete Building Materials.

Castletownbere Construction also collaborates with Malachy Walsh & Partners in Tralee, Daly Barry & Associates in Bantry, John J O’Sullivan & Associates in Glengarriff, Diarmuid McCarthy & Associates in Bantry and Christy Crowley Architecture in Bantry on a regular basis.

Castletownbere Construction has a number of commercial and residential projects on its books at the moment. Current / recent projects include new RNLI lifeboat stations in Baltimore, Union Hall and Castletownbere, and a new and long-awaited Harbour Support Facility in Castletownbere for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

“We get a lot of repeat business from the RNLI, Castletownbere Fishermen’s Co-op and the OPW to name but three. We carry out regular repairs and maintenance for the RNLI,” Miah says.

“On the residential side of things, we’re busy with one-off builds and renovations. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of people from Dublin and Cork City bought properties in the area which led to a strong demand for renovations.

“Most of our work is secured through word of mouth and recommendations. We’re very flexible in what we can do which leads to strong and long-lasting relationships with our customers.”

The affable managing director would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and skill.
