Major solar project for TINE Ireland expected to reduce dairy giant’s carbon emissions by 4000 tonnes

13 May , 2025

One of Ireland’sleading renewable energy providers, MarVal Power, has successfully completed a major solar energy project for TINE Ireland Ltd, the Irish division of Norwegian dairy giant TINE, at their commercial premises in Mogeely Co, Cork.

The project will reduce the company’s carbon footprint by over 4,344 tons across the next two decades—the equivalent of planting 2,150 trees or avoiding 370 roundtrips from Cork to Oslo every year.

Norwegian Ambassador to Ireland Aslak Brun was on site to meet with MarVal Power Director Fionnuala Carr and key members of Tine’s Norwegian and Irish staff – TINE Norway’s Director of International Operations, Ketil Haddeland and General Manager of TINE’s Irish facility Brian Glynn.

The Ambassador paid tribute to both TINE and MarVal staff for the collaborative effort required to deliver such a significant project:

“This project is a shining example of Norwegian-Irish co-operation on the path to a greener future. It reflects the values of sustainability and innovation that define both nations. I congratulate TINE and MarVal Power on this remarkable achievement.”

Chosen for their engineering expertise and EU-preferred sourcing policy, MarVal Power delivered a fully customised solar PV system designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing electrical infrastructure at Tine’s high-volume processing site.

Director of MarVal Power Fionnuala Carr said the company’s strategic collaboration with TINE showcases their technical excellence and commitment to helping businesses meet their sustainability goals through advanced solar technology:

“This project demonstrates not only our ability to handle complex commercial installations but also our dedication to supporting businesses like TINE in achieving real, measurable environmental impact,” Ms Carr said.

“This project shows what’s possible when engineering innovation and sustainability goals align—and we welcome interest from other commercial operators ready to make the switch,” she concluded.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Energy Output: The installation is expected to self-generate approximately 650MWh of clean energy annually—about 10% of Tine’s energy needs—saving over 215 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
  • Long-Term Impact: Over 20 years, the system will produce approximately 12,500MWh and offset 4,344 tons of carbon—equivalent to 2,150 trees or 370 roundtrips from Cork to Oslo annually.
  • Zero-Disruption Installation: MarVal Power assumed PSCS responsibilities and completed the installation safely with zero incidents, despite the challenges of a busy logistics environment and complex structural requirements.

TINE Norway’s Director of International Operations Ketil Haddeland here said the project was perfectly aligned with TINE’s overall sustainability objectives:

“Sustainability is central to TINE’s operations worldwide. Our partnership with MarVal Power at our Irish site in Mogeely showcases how strategic investments in renewable energy can deliver strong environmental impact and operational efficiency.”

Brian Glynn, General Manager of TINE’s Irish site Brian Glynn said the project would provide enormous benefits for the company both now and in the future:
“This investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to environmental responsibility here in Ireland. MarVal Power delivered a first-class installation that meets the needs of a complex, live site—and we’re already seeing the benefits.”

The project further solidifies MarVal Power’s growing reputation as a trusted solar energy partner for commercial clients across Ireland and the UK. Past projects include major installations for Dromoland Castle Group, Panda Waste, Denroy Ltd, and Bandon Co-Op.
