Adhering to the ‘quality over quantity’ mantra, Joseph Richards Construction Ltd in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary is a young company with a proud building heritage.
While Joseph Richards Construction has only been in business for four years, father-and-son Bill and Joseph Richards have a wealth of combined experience in the industry. Indeed, both sides of owner Joseph’s family are steeped in construction.
“It’s a family tradition,” he proudly states.
“Construction is in both my father and mother’s family. My father’s uncles were builders in Glanworth, Co. Cork and both he and I worked for my uncle Seamus Dunne, who is my mother Siobhan’s brother. Seamus ran Seamus Dunne Construction in Piltown, Co. Kilkenny for many years before retiring and I was with him for about 20 of those years, going back to the time when I started secondary school. I learned all aspects of the job from him and 80% of the subbies we use now worked with him as well.”
Specialising in new one-off residential builds, extensions, renovations and groundworks as well as some industrial and agricultural works, Joseph Richards Construction has quickly earned an enviable reputation for high-quality construction. Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of the family business, with Health & Safety also being paramount. From concept to completion, Joseph and Bill are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs.
Joseph Richards Construction’s one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Tipperary contractor’s ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products from local suppliers, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.
The father-and-son duo are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including Ger Dunne Plumbing & Heating, James Farrell Plastering, Tony Murphy Electrical, Paddy Power Electric, Pat Hackett Plant Hire, James Bannon Block-laying and Paul Purcell Carpentry. Their main suppliers include Holden Brothers Fascia & Soffit, Senator Windows, Chadwicks (Clonmel), Doyle Concrete, Roadstone and Gleeson Quarries, while Will McGarry Engineers, MK (Mark Kelly) Architecture & Surveying and Liam Judge Associates are some of the engineers / architects they deal with.
Joseph’s wife Marie is also a huge help on the administration side of things, while his sister Katie, who works as a marketing executive at Red PR, uploads social media content on a regular basis.
Business is thriving for Joseph Richards Construction who recently completed a 2,500 sq. ft. new build in Kilsheelan in collaboration with Will McGarry Engineers and the renovation of Seskin House, which is also in Kilsheelan. This previously unused building has been transformed into a functional space comprising an office, playroom, bathroom and utility room.
Additionally, the rear section of the main house was completely refurbished to create an open-plan kitchen and living area, designed to maximise natural light and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The exterior of Seskin House was finished with a traditional lime render, ensuring the structure blends seamlessly with the character and aesthetic of the original farmhouse.
“Sometimes, the smaller jobs can lead to bigger ones and that’s what happened in this case. We originally fitted a children’s wardrobe and that led to us renovating Seskin House for the same client,” explains Joseph, who is a carpenter by trade.
Asked what gives the Premier County operation the edge over the competition, the affable managing director replies: “We insist on quality over quantity, and are big on attention to detail and finish. If the client’s happy, we’re happy. We try to be fair to everyone and have also found word of mouth to be the best form of advertising.
“We got off to a great start by modernising a Peugeot showroom for Jim Strang & Sons in Kilsheelan. We hit the ground running with that and haven’t looked back since. We do a lot of renovation and repair jobs, and concrete yards for farmers as well.
“With labour being so scarce, we utilise machinery as much as possible. We’re currently running a three-tonne JCB digger, teleporter, tractor and low loader. We’re able to carry out the groundworks ourselves.”
There is never a dull moment for Joseph who has three boys – Cillian, Liam and Evan – under the age of five. As their business continues to go from strength to strength, Joseph and Bill would like to take this opportunity to thank their customers, suppliers, subcontractors and design teams for their support to date.
