These are exciting times for Cross Electrical Services Ltd which is a leading provider of full spectrum electrical solutions in Ireland.
Taking its name from Carroll’s Cross in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford where it has operated from since 1984, the company has grown to employ 100 people directly and many more on a subcontract basis. It has the flexibility and capacity to adapt to specific project requirements, and insists on having its expert senior management team actively involved in every project.
No job is too big or too small for Cross Electrical Services whose recent / current projects include Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny, Wexford General Hospital multi-storey car park and Adamstown Water Treatment Plant upgrade. And they are just the tip of the iceberg!
“2025 was an exceptionally busy year for us and 2026 looks set to be even busier,” Cross Electrical Services Managing Director Alan Darcy enthuses.
“The sectors we cover are healthcare, education, pharmaceutical, food & beverage and industrial, so the projects are quite diverse. One of the largest projects we worked on in 2025 was the brand-new Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny. We successfully completed the full electrical services installation works in collaboration with JJ Rhatigan Building Contractors. That was a nice local project to get.
“We’re currently working on a seven-level multi-storey car park that will provide over 400 additional car parking spaces at Wexford General Hospital. This project is being delivered in conjunction with Tom O’Brien Construction and the design team for the client, HSE.
“We’re also delivering the E&I package for the Adamstown Water Treatment Plant upgrade in Kilmeaden, Co. Waterford in collaboration with Glanua on behalf of Uisce Éireann. In addition, we’re currently working in Takeda in Bray, Tirlán in Ballyragget, St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, Glenpatrick Spring in Clonmel, Medite Ireland in Clonmel and Teva Pharmaceuticals in Waterford.”
Cross Electrical Services’ greatest asset is its people. Every person in the company, regardless of their role, is fully committed to delivering exceptional workmanship to ensure that each project is completed on time, within budget and to a level that not only meets, but exceeds client expectations.
The Cross Electrical Services team is unwaveringly dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service. This applies to every team member, from senior management through to the company’s excellent, extensive in-house apprenticeship programme.
“We take great pride in our apprenticeship programme and they all receive great tutoring from their supervisors, culminating in well-rounded electricians,” Alan explains.
“We’ve always taken a very keen interest in our apprentices. We have a good handle on the young lads that we take on and they get a good broad apprenticeship with us rather than being key-holed into one niche area.
“They go through a lot of containment, cabling, first and second fixing across a very broad spectrum and that leads to fully-qualified electricians with a wealth of skills and experience. We have a strong team of great guys here aged from 60 to 16 and they are an invaluable asset of Cross Electrical Services, especially in the current climate where it is so difficult to get good people.”
Furthermore, the dynamic senior management team is highly-skilled, focused and experienced, consistently providing exceptional leadership from the front.
“We have a very strong team right through every aspect of the company,” Alan continues.
“Our core team of supervisors are brilliant, as good as you will get anywhere. Noel Motherway is Operations Director, Alan Byrne is Contracts Manager, while Dave Halligan and Patrick Shanahan are our two Project Managers. You couldn’t have better people on your side.”
Cross Electrical Services has over the decades built an unrivalled track record by safely delivering a full range of industry-leading electrical services – including mechanical and electrical installations, MV installations and maintenance, process wiring and installation, and Design & Build / turnkey solutions – to a who’s who of clients across all industry sectors.
“Repeat business is the biggest compliment any company can receive and we are fortunate to get a lot of it,” the affable Managing Director says.
“Traditionally, once we start working with a client, they tend to stick with us. This is largely down to the passion and personal touch of our dedicated crew and the hands-on approach we take to every project. The management team takes on the projects hands-on and we give the client a familiar face to communicate with throughout the duration of the project.
“We have built very strong relationships with local companies and we know what they want from an electrical contractor and the standards they expect to achieve. As well as being experts on the ground, that point of contact is always there to look after our partners and give them value for money. We see ourselves as business partners of our clients because you are in partnership with them from start to finish of every project.”
On each project, specific solutions are identified and implemented to achieve optimal outcome and future-proofed outcomes that offer performance and longevity. “Everything we do, we try to turnkey it, from design through to installation, calibration, maintenance and everything in between.”
Health & Safety is a top priority for the Waterford-based company which has once again achieved the highest safety ‘A’ rating from Safe-T-Cert, the Safety Management Accreditation System for the construction industry. To this end, Cross Electrical Services continues to strive to improve its safety management procedures and practices to provide a safer working environment for all employees and clients.
Cross Electrical Services has a proud and successful history going back over 40 years when John Kirwan founded the business. John handed over the reins in 2018 to Tom Murphy who, in turn, was succeeded as Managing Director by Alan Darcy in 2023.
As the company continues to go from strength to strength, Alan would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients, suppliers and professional partners for their continued support as well as its hard-working team and subcontractors for their dedication and expertise.
