Kingspan and GOAL complete hospital project, boosting critical care for vulnerable communities in Honduras

15 Apr , 2026

Kingspan has completed construction of the new Sayri Molina hospital recovery ward in Puerto Cortés, Honduras, in partnership with the international humanitarian response agency, GOAL. Sayri Molina, in whose honour the new wing was named, was a much-loved programme officer on the GOAL Honduras team who sadly passed away during COVID.

Since the project began in 2020, Kingspan and GOAL have collaborated to successfully construct the 400-square metre 12-bed recovery ward, which is connected to the Public Hospital of Puerto Cortés.

The Puerto Cortés hospital serves an estimated 60,000–70,000 patients, and the new ward strengthens the project’s goal of delivering effective, efficient medical care to one of Honduras’s most vulnerable regions – an area heavily affected by COVID-19 and by severe storms and hurricanes, including Eta and Iota.

Kingspan and GOAL worked closely throughout the entire construction process, from design to implementation. GOAL Honduras led on the construction, while Kingspan provided essential materials including walls (interior and exterior), ceilings, roof panels, decorative exterior elements, joint covers, mouldings, gutters, and installation tools. A financial donation was also made by Kingspan to support this build.

Kingspan specialists travelled to Honduras to provide valuable on-site training and technical expertise via orientation and skill sharing sessions with local builders. This specialist training ensured the highest level of quality assurance and correct installation of Kingspan products.

GOAL Director of Global Programmes, Colin Lee, commented: “Together with Kingspan, and at the request of the district authorities and health department, we have expanded critical care capacity for Puerto Cortés, Honduras, with the construction of a 400-square-metre, 12-bed recovery ward at the Public Hospital. Serving up to 70,000 patients, this facility strengthens healthcare access in one of Honduras’ most vulnerable areas. By combining innovative building solutions with a shared commitment to long-term impact, we are ensuring patients receive the care they urgently need.”

The ward includes all necessary recovery facilities – hospital medical equipment, oxygen services, an electrical network complete with a backup emergency generator, air conditioning, water storage and distribution systems, and visitor bathrooms – in accordance with national health standards.

Mike Stenson, Divisional Managing Director and Project Manager for this partnership, Kingspan Group, commented: “When we partnered with GOAL in 2020, we set out to use our innovation, expertise and resources to deliver meaningful impact. Seeing the completion of the Sayri Molina ward is powerful testament to the dedication and hard work of the whole project team.”

“This facility will not only ease pressures on local services, but elevate care for local communities, strengthening healthcare delivery and helping to improve the wellbeing for those living in Puerto Cortés. We look forward to deepening our partnership with GOAL, as we continue to drive positive global change together.”

Kingspan’s five-year partnership with GOAL forms part of its Planet Passionate Communities initiative – the philanthropic arm of Kingspan’s Planet Passionate environmental sustainability programme. Through the Planet Passionate Communities initiative, Kingspan strives to support people and communities around the world, both local to Kingspan sites and further afield.

The GOAL partnership delivers on this vision at a global level, by developing critical infrastructure in healthcare and education to make lives better for some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
