CPAC Modular completes Irish Rail’s first‑of‑its‑kind Simulator Training Centre in Dublin

2 Jul , 2026

CPAC Modular has announced the completion of a landmark project for Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail: a state‑of‑the‑art Simulator Training Centre located within the historic Inchicore Railway Works. The new facility — designed to support advanced driver training for the expanding DART network — represents a major investment in Ireland’s rail infrastructure and the future of safe, efficient public transport.

The 1100sqm project forms part of Irish Rail’s wider DART expansion programme and includes a highly technical, purpose‑built simulator building delivered using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). This milestone project was led by CPAC Modular Project Manager Rachael Ryan, whose work on Irish Rail’s simulator facility has already been recognised nationally at the Women in Construction Awards. The project required precision engineering, advanced data integration, and seamless collaboration with international suppliers, reflecting the complexity and innovation at the heart of modern rail operations and the suitability and capability of Modern Methods of Construction for a project of this complexity.

The Simulator Training Centre showcases the capability of MMC to deliver highly technical, safety‑critical infrastructure with speed, quality, and certainty. The building integrates specialist systems to support immersive driver training, ensuring Irish Rail can prepare its teams for the next generation of DART operations.

Speaking on the completion of the project, Rachael Ryan, Project Manager at CPAC Modular, said: “Delivering this facility for Irish Rail has been an extraordinary opportunity to demonstrate what MMC can achieve for complex, technology‑driven infrastructure. The precision required — from coordinating international simulator suppliers to integrating advanced data and engineering systems — demanded a collaborative, solutions‑focused approach from everyone involved. We are incredibly proud to hand over a building that will play such a vital role in the future of Ireland’s rail network.”

The project’s success reflects close coordination between CPAC Modular, Irish Rail, specialist simulator partners, and engineering teams. The innovative modern methods of construction approach enabled controlled manufacturing, reduced disruption within the live Inchicore Works environment, and ensured programme certainty for a project with highly specialised technical requirements.

CPAC Modular’s Managing Director Sean Murphy added “This project demonstrates the power of MMC to deliver complex infrastructure safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards. The Simulator Training Centre is a critical asset for Irish Rail, and we are honoured to have played a role in shaping the future of rail training in Ireland.”
