Cluna Contracts Ltd is a commercial contractor specialising in gym, leisure centre and retail fitouts. Celebrating 10 years in business, it consistently delivers superior quality to valued clients.
Offering a variety of fitout services in Dublin and beyond, Cluna Contracts evolved from Cluna Developments, which continues to operate as a specialist in residential new builds, renovations and extensions. The company’s name derives from the townland of Cloona near Westport in Co. Mayo which owner Peter McGarry has many happy childhood memories of.
“Westport has been a second home for my family for generations, it holds close to my heart. My grandparents built a holiday home there and it’s now owned by my mother,” reveals the affable Tallaght man, who is married to Aíne and is father to Páidí and Georgie.
The Dublin-based fitout specialist has carved a niche for itself in the highly-specialised gym and leisure centre fitout sector. Its growth has coincided with a booming fitness industry driven by post-pandemic health awareness, rising wellness trends and increased demand for specialised training.
“We’ve completed 36 gym fitouts in the last 10 years and many more maintenance and upgrade projects throughout that time,” Peter explains.
“We’ve done everything from fitouts of small class-based gyms to full on commercial gyms, spin studios, Pilates studios and leisure centre fitouts and also gym renovations. Maintenance and repairs are also a big part of our business because gyms and leisure centres get a lot of footfall. Some of our customers have 7,000 or 8,000 members. We’re always busy renovating changing rooms and locker rooms.”
Cluna Contracts carried out its first gym fitout for Anytime Fitness and has since added six more franchises – Aura Leisure, BD Gyms, Bondi Pilates, Trib3, Energie Fitness and Club Pilates – to its list of clients.
The Aura Holohan Group is the biggest player in the Irish fitness and leisure sector, employing over 450 people in 12 Aura Leisure Centres, six Anytime Fitness clubs and DKIT Sport in Dundalk. The Group is one of Ireland’s foremost specialists in the management of sports and leisure facilities, focusing on quality and multi-award-winning services across all operations. The Aura Swim Academy is Ireland’s largest swimming academy with over 12,000 children attending lessons each week. The Aura Holohan Group has won numerous national awards for Disability Inclusion, Diversity and Inclusion, Health and Safety, Environmental Management and Quality Systems.
“The Aura Holohan Group are our biggest and longest-standing client, but we also have great customers in BD Gyms, Bondi Pilates, Energy Fitness and Club Pilates. We’ve built up an excellent relationship with all of them,” adds Peter, who is a carpenter by trade.
“Our first fitout was for Anytime Fitness in Kilmainham and, through word of mouth, it took off from there. We’ve since completed six full fitouts for Anytime Fitness alone.
“Since Covid, there has been a fitness explosion in Ireland. Young people in particular nowadays are big into their fitness. We’ve converted old schools, basketball courts, sports halls and even pubs into gyms. We look after every aspect of the fitout from start to finish.”
Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and an unwavering commitment to Health & Safety and working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Cluna Contracts. The company’s reputation for quality construction and proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget is borne out by the large volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied clients. With a strong emphasis on teamwork and through a partnership approach with its clients, Cluna Contracts always delivers a quality end-product.
Peter is joined by many highly-skilled tradespeople who use only the very best building products from suppliers such as Chadwicks, PFL and H&V Bathrooms & Tiles. The Cluna Contracts team is supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including NCCP (New Concept Ceilings & Partitions), Celt Engineering, Greywood, Leinster Painting, Aesthetic Flooring, LT Electrical and JD Electrical.
Cluna Contracts recently completed fitout projects for Aura Leisure in Drogheda and Limerick, Anytime Fitness in Kilnamanagh Shopping Centre and Club Pilates in Sandyford, which is their first studio in Ireland. The contractor is currently working on a new 10,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art UFC Gym in Point Square, Dublin city centre which will be the first of many for the MMA-inspired fitness franchise in Ireland.
“We’re very busy. We retain existing clients and attract new ones by providing an unrivalled commercial fitout service not only in Dublin, but nationwide.”
As Cluna Contracts continues to go from strength to strength, Peter would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and contractors for their continued support as well as his excellent staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
