Established in 2018 (it has been a limited company since 2020), Inline Construction Ltd in Skerries, Co. Inline Construction is owned and operated by Ciaran Devlin and Jim Briscoe, who had worked together in Vancouver before returning home to Ireland to set up their own business. Ciaran is a carpenter by trade who has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. During his seven years in Vancouver, he managed projects for one of the most renowned high-end contractors in Canada.
A quantity surveyor by profession, Jim spent four years in the US managing residential and commercial projects, and a further two years working in West Vancouver overseeing the construction of high-end homes. Inline Construction’s appearance on ‘Room to Improve’ was an excellent advertisement for the company’s wares. Having lived in their house in Raheny for eight years with their three young children, Louis and Norita O’Donoghue sought to future-proof their home through a full retrofit and a bold re-imagining of their living spaces.
Enter celebrity architect Dermot Bannon who planned to modernise the house and open up the rear to better connect with the garden, with a pavilion-style extension. With a budget of €275,000, Dermot felt the O’Donoghues had a reasonable budget. But with leaky roofs and a big wish-list, Dermot and QS Claire Irwin had to navigate unexpected costs and design compromises before leaving the family overjoyed by the final look of their transformed home.
“We were delighted to have had the opportunity to showcase what we can do and with the feedback we received. Dermot, Claire and the O’Donoghues were a pleasure to work with,” Ciaran says.
“It’s amazing how many people watch the show. It was a challenging project, but a very rewarding and positive experience. Our clients were more than pleased with the finished product.”
