James P. Cunningham Electrical Ltd. began life back in 1972. Fast forward 44 years and the company has earned an enviable reputation as a leading Electrical Services Company in the west of Ireland and beyond.

The progressive Galway-based company provide electrical, voice, data and protective service solutions across a wide variety of public and private sectors with work carried out nationwide.

Over the past four decades they have developed a proven track record for quality of work and delivery of projects on time.

They can provide services to their clients at all stages of a project, from inception, through installation, to maintenance following completion, future extensions and upgrades.

During construction, they co-ordinate with the client, building contractor, project manager, quantity surveyor, architect, M & E services engineer and other services contractors on site.

James P. Cunningham Electrical Ltd’s systematic and practical approach to project management ensures that all projects meet their clients’ expectations.

Today, company founder James Cunningham’s son, Tom, has taken over the reins of the family run company as Managing Director while his wife Clare is a fellow director.

He was keen to highlight the significant role played by the company’s 25 person strong staff in their continued growth. Their experience and skills, coupled with the latest modern technology, allows  James P. Cunningham Electrical Ltd provide their clients with the highest level of service, design, and installation.

“Our Contracts Manager, Kieran Duffy, has been with us 21 years while our Financial Controller, Tom Griffin, has worked with us for 12 years,” he revealed. “Most of our valued and loyal employees have been with us for 15 years plus which means that our clients know what they can expect when they contract us to do a job.”

JPC Electrical’s clients are drawn from both the public and private sectors and they believe that their track record, together with their reputation for thorough professionalism, quality and reliability, has allowed them to not only work with companies but also helped in achieving a large amount of repeat business.

The company boasts an impressive project portfolio and a recently completed job that Tom is particularly proud of is the cultural centre at “Teach an Phiarsaigh” in Ros Muc, Connemara.

Official opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, T.D., in November, it is one of the permanent reminders developed as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme and focuses on 1916 leader Padraig Pearse and his relationship with County Galway.

“I’d expect that to win architectural and engineering awards,” Tom said.

Tom and the team at James P. Cunningham Electrical Ltd are no strangers to award success themselves. Back in March 2009 they were feted as the ‘RECI Contractor of the Year 2009’ (Industrial/Commercial) for the West Region at the inaugural ‘RECI Contractor of the Year Awards’.

The assessment criteria for the awards were based on submissions made by RECI members and RECI inspection reports using a scoring system that takes into account: Wiring rules, Testing, Training, Record keeping and Overall competence.

Incidentally, James Cunningham, who is well known in Galway for his charitable work, is a past nominee for ‘The Galway Person of the Year’ accolade.

James P. Cunningham Electrical, meanwhile, are conscious of the need to achieve, sustain and improve the high quality of electrical contracting service provided by the company.

In order that this is achieved they have developed a documented quality system to control all aspects of the company.

It is the intention of the company that their work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions and all reasonably practicable measures to avoid risk to their employees and all others who may be affected by their work will be adopted.

JPC are recognised for their outstanding client service, the quality of their work and their commitment to Health & Safety. These strengths have helped them to retain key clients and win new ones.

Valued clients include the likes of the HSE, NUIG, the OPW, the Sisters of Mercy and The Galway Races to name but a few.

10 years have passed since James P. Cunningham Electrical relocated into a new state of the art 4800 sq. ft. office, workshop and storage facility.

“Thankfully, we’re very busy at the moment,” Tom revealed. “We successfully managed to retain our core staff during the recession because we were lucky in that we had a lot of good clients and regular maintenance contracts built up.

“There was no major construction work going on but we were kept busy. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and our customer service and, looking ahead to the future, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the upturn will come this side of the Shannon. I’d expect business to pick up substantially in the next six to 12 months.”

From their current position, James P. Cunningham Electrical Ltd are well placed to to ensure their graph continues on an upward trend in the years ahead.
