Double delight for Prowire Electrical

28 Oct, 2026

Prowire Electrical Ltd’s commitment to excellence was underscored by its double success at Ireland’s Electrical Awards 2026.

Delivering high-quality, professional electrical installations across the domestic and commercial sectors since 2012, the Waterford-based contractor was delighted to win ‘Residential Project of the Year (Medium) for Summerfields residential development and ‘Commercial Project of the Year (Under €1m)” for Ruby Lounge & Monaco Tom’s, both of which are in Waterford. Prowire Electrical was also proud to be shortlisted in the ‘Commercial Project of the Year’ category for its successful delivery of STS Group’s new HQ in Waterford and for the overall Contractor of the Year accolade..

Presented at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown on Thursday, June 5 last, the Awards are the industry’s most prestigious set of independent awards and are all about showcasing the absolute best in Ireland’s electrical sector.

“It was a great night,” enthuses Prowire Electrical managing director David Burke, who was thrilled to accept both awards.

“To be recognised in one category was an honour, but to win in two categories is something we’re enormously proud of. These wins are a testament to our amazing team who bring the same craftsmanship and pride to site every week. They’re also a credit to the partners we delivered these projects alongside – the main contractors, design teams and clients whose collaboration and trust made the results possible. These awards belong to everyone who worked on these projects.”

David adds: “We previously won ‘Small Contractor of the Year’ and ‘Small Commercial Project of the Year’, going back to 2018. These successes highlight our consistently high standards and our wide-ranging service – we’re not pigeonholed into one area.”

DFL appointed Prowire Electrical to deliver the complete Copper Close electrical installation, including integrated fire safety systems and EV-ready provision, across all houses and apartment blocks from Phase 4 onwards with the simple brief: build every home to the standard its owners deserve, not to the minimum the scheme allows. With Phase 4 successfully handed over, attention has turned to Phase 5, comprising a further 62 homes, and delivered by the same team and to the same high specification across every property.

The other award-winning project, Ruby Lounge & Monaco Tom’s, was a technically challenging fit-out / refurbishment of Waterford’s go-to bar on the Dunmore Road with full electrical scope delivered at pace, also in partnership with DFL.

“We’ve just completed the refurbishment of Ruby Lounge & Monaco Tom’s which was previously an Australian-themed bar known as Uluru. We worked closely with the owner Bob Tweedy and design consultant Frank Ennis as well as the lighting, sound and fire safety contractors to deliver an exceptional finish. We were able to strip out the old venue without impacting on business at a Chinese Restaurant overhead.”

As one of the largest electrical engineering firms in Ireland, fitting out the new STS Group HQ in Waterford was another feather in Prowire Electrical’s cap. “It was a huge honour to be awarded that job. When a big electrical contractor like STS Group puts their trust in you, you must be doing something right!” David smiles.

STS Group set out to transform their outdated two-storey office into a modern, biophilic workspace that supports wellbeing, collaboration and future growth. Prowire Electrical was appointed as the electrical contractor from the early design stage, working from issued drawings and schematics to deliver a complete electrical installation aligned with the architect’s vision.

The project demanded a careful balance of technical precision, aesthetic sensitivity and system-wide coordination. From specialist lighting to fire integration to complex containment routing, every element of the electrical infrastructure had to work seamlessly within a high-end office fitout.

Prowire Electrical is a full-service electrical contractor offering a wide range of services, including domestic installations and commercial fit-outs. The multi-award-winning company has worked on a variety of electrical projects, from small residential to large office fitouts. It operates nationwide with the goal of providing professional installation and maintenance services to domestic, industrial and commercial clients.

Furthermore, Prowire Electrical provides a full package of electrical services, including lighting and emergency lighting installation, data cabling, power distribution, fault finding and much more. Its highly- skilled team of certified and registered electricians have a wealth of experience in delivering all sizes of electrical installations.

From humble beginnings in 2012 when David started out with just one apprentice alongside him, he now employs 19 electricians, including six apprentices.

“I decided to go out on my own during the recession,” he remembers.

“The first couple of years were tough, but things eventually started to pick up around 2018. Covid then hit in 2020 and set us back two years. But we’ve bounced back strongly from that. We’ve gone from strength to strength since then, but are still mindful that you’re only as good as your last job.”

The Waterford man is also grateful for the support he receives from his wife Clare, young sons Jerry (11) and Joe (10), and extended family.

“I’m lucky to have great people around me at home and at work. Both my parents and Clare’s parents are self-employed and they’ve always given good advice.”

As Prowire Electrical prepares to celebrate 15 years in business in 2027, its affable managing director would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and industry partners for their continued support as well as his team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
