Komatsu’s latest installment in its range of heavy-duty demolition machines – the PC390HRD-11 excavator – has arrived.
Built to ‘hit new heights in the demolition sector’, it can be configured in six different working arrangements and can carry a 2.5 tonne demolition tool to a height of 26 metres or a 4-tonne tool up to 15 metres.
According to the Japanese manufacturer, the new unit is designed to bring ‘best in class’ working power to the 50 tonne sector whilst delivering optimal control, precision and safety.
Since being unveiled earlier this year and prior to becoming available on the market, the new machine has already been honoured with this year’s prestigious National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) Award for innovation.
Confirming the PC390HRD -11 is now available to order in Ireland, John O’Brien, sales director with distributor McHale Plant Sales points to the fact that the machine was designed and developed by Komatsu in the UK using customer feedback adding: “The new PC390HRD-11 excavator is a revolutionary and versatile unit built to remove the need for multiple machines in the demolition process”.
Mindful that demolition machines must be moved from site to site regularly, for ease of transport, Komatsu kept the PC390HRD-11 as compact and light as possible, without compromising durability. This coupled with a new hydraulic undercarriage option makes it quick and easy to set up the machine on site and reduces transport width to less than 3 metres.
Machine stability is improved as the standard undercarriage fitted to the new excavator is a mechanically variable style with a much larger footprint than the model it replaces, the outgoing PC350LC-8 HRD.
An advanced technological feature on the new machine is its calibrated working range indication system with a full colour display unit which shows safe working zones and allows the operator to use the machine to its maximum effect without compromising safety, even through a full 360 degree turn. An optional arm end camera system is also available.
Other features include LED working lamps, tilting cab control on wrist controller, a parallel link windscreen wiper for improved visibility and a Neutral Detection System to help avoid unintended movement.
Like other Komatsu EU Stage IV machines, the PC390HRD-11 comes equipped with the latest KOMTRAX telematics and Komatsu CARE complimentary maintenance support to protect the machine against misuse, help maximise efficiency and lower downtime.
Anticipating the new excavator will likely be a ‘game changer’ for demolition contractors, O’Brien adds: “Through a combination of invention and innovation, Komatsu has always strived to build leading machines in their individual fields. With the PC390HRD-11, they have developed an excavator that will be a further demonstration of this”.
