Established in 2003 by brothers Darren and Niall Cush, HSU Construction is a professional and dynamic company specialising in interior fit-out, partitions and suspended ceilings within the commercial, health, educational, domestic, restoration and sports sectors. The Co. Tyrone-based firm has undertaken many prestigious contracts for some of Ireland’s leading contractors as Darren explains.
HSU Construction has grown to become one of Ireland’s most respected interior fit-out specialists. The company offers an experienced, competent and hands-on management team which is backed up by an equally experienced and highly-skilled team of tradesmen. Covering all of Ireland, HSU Construction carries out a wide range of work for each sector of construction. It has forged very strong working relationships with the leading construction firms who can count on HSU to provide the ultimate in knowledge and experience for guaranteed superior quality.
“We have successfully completed numerous contracts for main contractors varying from educational, healthcare, retail and commercial to social and private housing and restoration works,” says Darren Cush, who graduated from UUJ in Civil Engineering & Construction Management.
“They choose us because of the quality of our work, our competitive pricing, our programme and on-site management, and our strict adherence to Health & Safety and quality policies. Our hands-on approach and reputation for completing every project on time and within budget are other key factors in our ability to secure repeat work. Our clients can rely on our professional service at every stage of the project.”
Operating from Cookstown, HSU Construction boasts an impressive portfolio of projects and a client-base which includes the likes of McAleer & Teague Ltd, Western Building Systems, Tracey Brothers Ltd, Manley Construction, Edgewater Contracts, Qmac Construction and Geda Construction. Currently, HSU is working on three different five-storey office fit-outs in Belfast in conjunction with Tracey Brothers.
“We are doing the fit-out work on office block accommodation in Bruce Street and Cleaver House, and at the Concourse Science Block, which will provide the Belfast Campus with a further 55,000 sq. ft. of lettable space, including wet lab facilities alongside technology workspace,” Darren explains.
Another current HSU Construction / Tracey Brothers project involves the construction of a new ambient food storage and distribution warehouse for the Henderson Group at Hyde Park Industrial Estate in Mallusk. This includes the construction of a new office building to be integrated into the warehouse.
HSU is also carrying out an apartment fit-out for a private client in Belfast, while in Dublin, it is undertaking a refurbishment and extension contract for Edgewater Contracts at the Maldron, Pearse St. Hotel and Hilton Customs House hotel as well as an office fit-out for Manley Construction in Ballsbridge.
Among the contracts HSU Construction has completed in recent years includes fit-outs at the 96-bed Cairnhill Nursing Home in Bray, Co. Wicklow for McAleer & Teague; the Science Block in UCD, also for McAleer & Teague; new school builds in Tyrrellstown, Porterstown, Luttrelstown, Stepaside (all Dublin), Ratoath, Co. Meath and Portarlington, Co. Laois for Western Building Systems; new school builds in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare and Tullow, Co. Carlow for Tracy Brothers. Taking the schools from a steel / concrete shell, HSU was responsible for external linings, internal partitions, bulkheads and suspended ceilings.
“All schools were handed over within programme, to a very high standard of workmanship and all within the required air tightness requirement at the first time of asking,” Darren points out.
In addition, the Co. Tyrone firm was sub-contracted by Edgewater Contracts to carry out refurbishment works at Brown Thomas on Dublins Grafton Street and at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel (formerly The Burlington Hotel) in Ballsbridge. HSU also fitted decorative ceilings and wall panels at the FAI (Football Association of Ireland) headquarters in Abbotstown and suspended ceilings at the Dublin City Mortuary in Whitehall.
Closer to home, HSU was responsible for the complete interior fit-out of the Newell Stores supermarket in Coalisland in 2012/13. Other projects the company is proud to have been associated with were the Clones Sports Centre in Co. Monaghan, the Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane, the Lisburn Assessment & Resource Centre and the refurbishment of Diamond Hall and the Student Union building at University of Ulster Coleraine for Geda Construction and Qmac Construction respectively.
As well as commercial and industrial fit-outs, HSU offers various works, both decorative and thermally, to the privately-owned housing sector. Work can range from supply and fitting a lining with insulated plasterboard lining to perimeter walls for thermal requirements or, for a more aesthetic purpose, decorative bulkheads above kitchen islands, dining tables, dummy chimney breasts, display units and bedroom and bathroom bulkheads can be fitted.
This leading fit-out specialist conducts its business in a very professional manner. Indeed, its reputation is its most valuable asset.
