Based in Sandyford, Co Dublin, Ethos Engineering provides mechanical and electrical consultancy services to its clients. Building Ireland touched base with its Associate Director, Neal Merry to learn more about the company and its recent success at the annual Fit-Out Awards.
2020 saw Ethos Engineering marking 15 years in business and the plan for the company this year is to keep the business thriving in a similar manner to the past 12 months.
Neal Merry is Associate Director at the company and described business as being “quite strong” throughout this past year. having gained more projects and added further staff along the way.
Ethos Engineering has offices in Dublin, Cork and Galway, as well as a London branch, and provides its clients with mechanical and electrical consultancy services.
Building Ireland spoke to Neal Merry in the early part of 2021 to learn more about the company – from the state of business today to its most recent award success.
“We’ve actually been quite strong over the last year, all things considered,” he outlined.
“Even with the pandemic and the impact that it’s had, we’ve been adding staff and have numerous projects on at the moment.
“One of them is a Data Centre project which is based in Amsterdam and is roughly about 25 megawatts of data space.”
Ethos Engineering provides mechanical and electrical consultancy services to the residential, commercial, retail, data centre, sports, leisure, micro-electronic, healthcare, educational, municipal, high tech and pharmaceutical sectors.
Since its inception in 2005, the company has completed over 790MW of data space and 7,200,000 ft2 of office space.
Its team of talented staff is made up of highly qualified and commercially aware engineers with good industry experience.
Ethos Engineering has always taken pride in delivering superior services, while paying careful attention to detail in order to achieve the best solutions that continually exceed clients’ expectations.
Today, the business proudly holds an excellent record when it comes to the design of sustainable concepts across all sectors of the building industry and utilise the latest building simulation software to assist in this regard.
It would have been the vision for company directors Greg Hayden, Colm Devlin and John Coroner when they first set-up their venture 16 years ago.
“I think our clients choose us because of the expertise that we bring,” said Neal, who joined the company in August 2015.
“That and the fact that we provide that level of a hands-on approach onsite and when it comes to commissioning.”
This past December saw the company’s excellent work recognised on a national scale when they claimed a double success at the ninth annual Fit-Out Awards.
The Fit-Out Awards celebrate excellence in the execution of world-class fit outs, and also the people and clients who drive the projects. With each passing year they have grown in scale and companies from all over Ireland come together, network, collaborate, and showcase their work.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 awards were held as a live digital broadcast hosted by Colm O’Regan on December 18th.
“With the pandemic, it (the nomination) came about around October/November and the awards themselves were in December then,” said Neal.
“It was definitely a different experience this year because you would have been watching and celebrating in a room by yourself. Hopefully, next year things will get back to some sort of normality.”
Ethos Engineering picked up the award for Fit-Out Professional Consultancy of the Year for 2020, marking the company’s third success in-a-row having won in the prestigious category in 2019 and 2018.
As for Neal, he also enjoyed some sweet success on the night after being named Fit-Out Designer of the Year for 2020.
The success was a special one for the Dublin native after having won Young Fit-Out Designer of the Year three years previous.
“It was a nice honour to get and it was even better so than in 2017 when I got Young Fit-Out Designer of the Year,” said the Associate Director.
“I suppose it’s great recognition for the work that you do and hopefully there’ll be more of it to come this year for Ethos Engineering.”
Having had a stint working abroad in both Australia and Saudi Arabia, Neal has been part of the team at Ethos Engineering five-and-a-half years now and has enjoyed two wins at the Fit-Out Awards in that time.
He has also seen the company grow in that time, adding staff as it continues to produce designs that are detailed, innovative, practical, economical, socially responsible and sustainable.
The mission at Ethos Engineering has always been to engineer systems that complement the purpose of the building, improve the immediate and surrounding community, and meet the objectives of its operations, inhabitants, patrons, operators and staff.
With its Head Office in Sandyford, Co Dublin and additional offices in Cork, Galway, Limerick and in the UK, the Ethos Engineering environment allows its team of talented staff to approach projects with originality, creativity, common sense and enthusiasm.
