“We’re a small building firm that prides ourselves on quality construction and specialises in new one-off house builds, extensions and renovations. Most of our work is concentrated in the South Down, South Armagh and North Louth areas,” explains Declan, who is a carpenter by trade.

Declan Mullen Building Contracts builds beautiful bespoke homes that typically range from 2,000 sq. ft. to 4,000 sq. ft. in size and have ‘A’ BER rating and also carries out a number of extensions and renovations.
“We recently completed new house builds in Blackrock, Co. Louth and Killeavy, Co. Armagh, and are currently renovating another house in Blackrock. Most of our work is secured through word of mouth and recommendations. We get a lot of repeat business and have some great customers.
“While commercial work is a growing area for us, our main focus continues to be one-off housing building. That’s our bread and butter and what we’re best known for.”
The COVID crisis and Brexit have combined to slow down the supply chain and drive up the cost of building materials.
“It’s a worry,” Declan admits “and has led to a rise in the cost of building a new house through no fault of the builder. A lot of it is to do with shortages in materials caused by COVID and Brexit. Steel and timber prices have sky-rocketed. Hopefully things will settle down soon and we can get back to some sense of normality.”
