Based in Dromahair, Co Leitrim, McMorrow Contractors Ltd offers its clients the best combination of management, skills and craftsmanship while providing excellent value for money and first-class quality of service. Building Ireland touched base with Managing Director Keith McMorrow to learn all about this family-run company – from its origins to current projects it has on-going.
Business has been very progressive for McMorrow Contractors Ltd and the plan for the Team is to continue building on that success well into the future.
Incorporated in 2019, the company’s origins date back more than four decades when Vincent McMorrow had established his own contracting business (McMorrow Plant Hire).
Today, his son Keith heads up McMorrow Contractors Ltd as its Managing Director and the business operates with 10 direct staff, with his brother Joe and father both intrinsically involved in what is a well-established family-run venture.
Building Ireland caught up with Keith recently to hear about the overall state of business for the company at the moment and its hopes going forward.
“Our background is centred on the plant hire business that remains an integral part of our current operating model and this is supported by our fleet of plant excavators, diggers, dumpers, tractors, mini-dumpers and small excavators. However, we also recognised the transferability of our skillsets and identified opportunities with evolving customer demands so diversified into construction work which is now our primary focus. We have steadily grown our business and take great pride in delivering a best-in-class customer experience for our clients.
“For the construction side of our business, we deliver an end-to-end turnkey service and include agencies such as the HSE, ESB, Sligo County Council and Leitrim County Council as some of our regular clients. Central to our approach is really listening to and deeply understanding the needs of our clients and in partnering with them in delivery of successful projects. We set very high standards, continually upskill, keep pace with latest innovations and hold ourselves to account in the delivery of construction excellence and in maximising value for all our clients. They are our highest priority.”
Keith himself is with his family company 15 years now, having served his time as a carpenter previously and been self-employed during the “boom years”. When things started to slow down a bit, he joined his father’s business and now runs the operation as MD, with plans to grow McMorrow Contractors Ltd further over the coming years.
Today, business is flourishing for the Leitrim-based venture as Keith himself explained. “Business is going really well and the company is immersed in a number of projects that will lead into the first quarter of next year. Specialising in all sectors of the building industry, including residential new builds of single and multi-housing, residential house extensions and renovations, commercial and industrial sector build works, one-off projects, A-rated homes and extensive certified fire upgrade work allows McMorrow Contractors Ltd to provide its clientele with a wide range of services and thus makes them first choice for so many.
“During Covid we were privileged to be in a position to support the HSE with the delivery of ‘emergency works’ and projects in response to the challenges brought about by the pandemic.”
So, the burning question is, what has been the secret behind the success of the Mc Morrows’ contracting business to date?
How has a small start-up grown into a thriving company with a reputation for excellent work all throughout the Leitrim region and across the county’s borders?
For Keith, much of it comes down to a combination of their own exacting standards of work, a customer-centric approach and an honesty that is consistently delivered down through the years earning the unwavering trust of clients. “The reality that the majority of our work is repeat business with clients proves as testimony to this trust.”
Looking towards the months ahead for the business, Keith is very much optimistic and hopes that the projects will continue to come thick and fast in 2023 as they have done over the past couple of years.
Like everyone else, the Leitrim native would love to see an overall reduction in materials costs but, for now, it’s all shoulders to the wheel as usual at McMorrow Contractors Ltd.
“The overall hope is for a very bright future and Mc Morrow Contractors Ltd will continue to be there as the go-to contractors of choice for their expanding client base.”
