Under the stewardship of Diarmaid Whoriskey and his father-in-law, TJ O’Mahoney, Leitrim-based Rathmore Mechanical Services Ltd has fast developed a name as a leading provider of mechanical engineering services throughout the country.
After a previous company the pair worked for went out of business during the recession, Diarmaid and TJ took the brave decision to pool their experience and knowledge to set up Rathmore Mechanical Services Ltd in 2009 and it’s fair to say that they haven’t looked back since.
They realise that their clients expect them to be reliable, punctual and carry out workmanship to a high standard, which is why all of their workforce, are fully qualified and hold all the relevant qualifications required by the trade.
Headquartered in Kinlough, Co Leitrim and with a yard in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, Rathmore Mechanical Services specialise in the commercial, private and educational sectors and distance is no object as they offer a nationwide service.
“We set up on our own and the rest is history!” quipped Donegal native Diarmaid.
“We had our ups and downs over the initial two to three year period. We lost a few pound but we put our heads down and TJ’s wealth of experience as a contracts manager has been a great asset to the business. Our approach is straight forward – we do the job and we do it right.”
Rathmore Mechanical Services’ philosophy is one that offers a cost effective service that is fully compliant with current regulations, standards and legislation whilst meeting the specific requirements of each particular project.
They are proud to have trusting and long-term relationships with their clients and their aim is to maintain these relationships as well as continue to expand their client base.
“We are specialists when it comes to heating, plumbing, ventilation and air conditioning while we also do steel works as well,” Diarmaid explained.
Rathmore’s curriculum vitae of successfully completed projects includes Le Cheile Primary School, Tyrellstown, Co Dublin; Rockhill House Hotel, Letterkenny, Co Donegal; Northern Trust in Limerick and Abbot Ireland in Longford. They recently started work on the Ernst & Young Global Limited offices in Limerick.
As a company, they are dedicated to delivering the highest levels of service, safety and security and their hands-on experience brings confidence and peace of mind to their customers.
They are small enough to provide a personal, flexible and friendly service and large enough to provide the right level of professionalism for any job.
“We’re fairly busy at the moment,” revealed Diarmaid. “At all times, we get in, get out and there are no come backs. We pride ourselves on the quality of the work. We’re also flexible when it comes to where we take on jobs. We have four vehicles on the road and it doesn’t matter what time of day it is. If it’s 4am in the morning, well drive to Cork if we have to.”
In addition, Rathmore Mechanical Services ensure that all their employees are 100% safe on site and they take great steps to educate and train their employees to achieve this goal.
“Healthy & Safety is a big priority as far as we are concerned,” Diarmaid – whose wife Lorraine acts as the company secretary on a part-time basis – added. “We’re a member of the Construction Industry Federation and have our Safe-T-Cert. You can’t take any short cuts when it comes to Health & Safety.”
Looking to the future, Diarmaid and TJ are firmly focussed on growing the company to ensure that they move with the times and maintain their position competing with the best in the industry for the most prestigious available projects.
“We’d definitely be hoping to expand but a shortage of skilled labour is a big problems facing us and the industry as a whole. As everyone knows, a lot of construction workers were forced to emigrate during the recession and a lot of them haven’t returned.
“As a result, we have to sub-contract work. If we were to take on 10 lads it would be hard to determine if we would have the work to keep them going.
“Another challenge we face is the rising costs of materials while it can also be costly keeping vehicles on the road. All of that is a big factor when you’re pricing jobs but when the time is right we will be looking to expand and I’d be optimistic that we might be in a position to do that next year.”
Rathmore Mechanical Services Ltd has built a reputation for reliability and professionalism in the industry and forged strong relationships with their clients. They offer an excellent balance of quality workmanship, cost and service.
As a result, there are never any come backs!
