Celebrating 25 years in business, Corr & Nyland Building Contractors Ltd is a leading civil engineering contractor which continues to go from strength to strength.
Specialising in civil engineering, groundworks, general haulage, low loader hire, grab hire and tractor and dump trailer hire, the company was established in 2000 and has grown to employ 25 people directly, and many more on a subcontract basis. With depots in Lismacaffrey, Co. Westmeath and Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Corr & Nyland has earned an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality civil engineering and groundworks projects on time and within budget, predominantly in the Dublin area.
Complete customer satisfaction is achieved through working together as a team and providing a reliable, efficient and value-for-money service. Corr and Nyland Building Contractors Ltd continually earn repeat business based on the consistently high standard of their work. Under managing director Oliver Corr, the contracting firm has developed close working relationships with Lagan Homes, Liffey Contracts, Gannon Homes, Circet and South Dublin Construction to name but a few. It also holds waste collection permits for all of Ireland.
All employees are trained to the highest standards, and are skilled and experienced workers who complete projects that not only meet, but exceed client expectations. As well as being a member of the CIF, IRHA and VCR, the Westmeath-headquartered company is the holder of a Safe-T-Cert which is a certification scheme designed for certifying the Safety Management Systems of contractors working in the construction industry. Health & Safety is paramount in every job.
Developing from the early stages of remedial works, Corr & Nyland steadily progressed into site development, civil works and building works in Westmeath, Dublin and surrounding counties. It has since added several other strings to its bow, including a general haulage service between the midlands and Dublin. This is mostly availed of by Kilsaran who are both a client and supplier to Corr & Nyland.
“I’m originally from Claremorris in Co. Mayo where I started off working with my uncle in civil engineering,” explains Oliver, whose wife Ena is also a director of the company.
“I set up this company in December 2000 and have been based in Lismacaffrey since 2005. We had Dublin offices in Santry and Rathcoole before moving to Portgloriam on the Clane Road, Kilcock five years ago. Having initially carried out building repairs and renovations, we now do the civil works from tender stage to completion.
“In addition to this, we specialise in general haulage and plant hire. We have an array of machinery and equipment to cater for all your civil engineering and groundworks needs.”
Oliver runs a nine-strong fleet of excavators ranging from three to 26 tonnes. He also has a JCB 180-degree rubber wheeled machine, Fendt and Massey Ferguson tractors and two dump trailers. For haulage, he runs nine trucks, which are a mix of MAN and Scania.
“We provide the whole package for our clients with the most skilled labour force. We have our own fleet of lorries, excavators, tractors and dump trailers,” Oliver says.
“We have nine Kobelco diggers, including a new one with GPS control. We deal with McSharry Bros in Roscommon for Kobelco, O’Reilly Commercials in Ballinalack for MAN and McElvaney’s in Monaghan for Scania. We have three MAN and six Scanias, including two new Super 500R tags which feature front air suspension, retarders, LED lighting, full leather interior and beacons. We had already bought two new Super 500R trucks from McElvaney’s in 2023 and were very impressed with their fuel economy and comfort.
“We’ve also recently taken delivery of two new tippers with electric covers. One is a Schmitz Cargobull from Ashbourne Truck Centre and the other is a Meiller from Setanta Vehicle Sales. We have 12 trailers in total comprising tippers, curtainsiders and a low loader. Another recent addition is a Broughan trailer from Clarke Machinery. We’re constantly upgrading our fleet and machinery to ensure there is no such thing as downtime.”
Currently, one of Corr & Nyland’s largest projects is a new development consisting of 99 apartments at Miller’s Glen in Swords for Gannon Homes. Oliver and his team are working alongside Liffey Contracts, who are the main contractor and PSCS for all site development and infrastructure works. Corr and Nyland have undertaken the construction of main distributor roads, internal access roads, all drainage, services, ground works and all associated hard and soft landscaping.
Corr & Nyland is also carrying out bulk excavation / muck away works for Liffey Contracts in Ballyfermot, Glas Civil Engineering in Maynooth and Castlebrowne in Horizon Logistics Park, Swords.
The fact that the company provides a full suite of building services to help realise any project – no matter how big or small – is another draw for clients. Oliver and his crew are fully experienced in all aspects of the general building industry from civil construction, commercial building, road construction, public works and drainage works to demolition, school construction and residential projects.
The affable Mayo man has always felt that there’s no substitute for high standards and this has been his mantra since he set up the business a quarter of a century ago. “I think it comes down to the quality of the workmanship and the fact that we deliver projects on time and within the agreed budget,” he adds.
With his daughter Caoimhe hoping to go on to study civil engineering after her Leaving Cert in June and younger sibling Oisín – who is an up-and-coming footballer with Northern Geals and Longford – also showing an interest, Oliver is confident that Corr & Nyland will soon become a second- generation business.
For now, he would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their support. He would also like to thank his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, skill and dedication.
Here’s to the next 25 years!
