Manutec Ltd: For all your computerised controls systems needs

10 Oct , 2017

For almost 40 years now, Limerick based Manutec Ltd has been a leading company in the field of designing and manufacturing computerised control systems.

Established by John Connellan in 1979, the company has been meeting the control requirements of leading organisations in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial and commercial arenas ever since.

The quality of their work has always stood out and as a result they have held the ISO EN ISO 9001:2008 quality standard for a number of years now.

Project Manager Ger O’Doherty spoke to Building Ireland about the services that they provide to their ever increasing customer base.

“Our service range includes Comprehensive Maintenance, Calibration, Validation, Bespoke Design, Energy Monitoring and Targeting,” said Ger.

“We have been involved in projects for some of the leading businesses in Ireland, while we utilise technology from the likes of Schneider Electrical, Danfoss, Modbus, M-Bus, BACnet, Sontay, Zig Bee and Sauter.”

Manutec Ltd have approved system house status for many leading controls companies such as Trend, Cylon and Tridium.

Some of the customer base includes cooperates like Stryker, HP. AIB, Genzyme HSE, Pfizer, Celestica, BOI, Eircom, Radisson, Best Western, Heineken and Paddy Power to name just a few.

“Business has really picked up in the last two years following the recession and we are happy with the workload that we have on at the moment.

“This is very much a price driven job and you have to offer competitive rates while continuing to deliver on the quality of service and that is something we feel that we do achieve as many of our customers have been with us for years.”

The company produces a range of products including Motor Control Centre (MCC) manufacture, Form 2 and Form 4

Cylon, Trend and Tridium based Building Management Systems (BMS).

Preventive maintenance is a major part of the business as Manutec Ltd supports a complete “after project” maintenance service for all projects. Available packages include three-month, six-month and annual maintenance packages.

For Building Management System maintenance specifically, we provide a complete and thorough maintenance service while including the testing of all inputs and outputs, single point and multi-point calibration and fault finding.

Manutec supply, install and test filters, motors, belts, fans, valves, actuators, sensors and any other component that the customer may require.

“For Air Handling Unit Maintenance, Manutec provides services including the refurbishment of all the AHUs and MCC maintenance and modifications are also carried out.”

A major concern for the company at the moment is the lack of skilled workers in the industry and Ger revealed that they generally hire employees straight from college and give them the necessary training.

“It is not easy to get skilled workers in this industry and we hire straight from college and we have a staff of 24 people here now.

“We are aware of the importance of regular and varied training for all of our staff. The software department regularly attend training courses on all the proprietary suppliers eg: Trend, Cylon and Tridium.

“Other courses attended include Validation Documentation, Health and Safety training, Project Management, AutoCAD, Sage accounting etc. These courses can vary in length from short 1-day or week, or

can extend to Degree and MA level as deemed necessary.”

Manutec Ltd are there to offer solutions to the customers’ problems. Through their bespoke design and manufacture service, they feel that they can achieve this on every occasion.

“We feel that we have the experience to deal with any issue or problem that a customer might have and many of the products within our range are the result of answering specific needs of our customers. We offer a high degree of customisation, and involvement of the end-user, in the production of the design. Our resources include powerful design tools and programming skills through to metal fabrication and assembly facilities.”

Manutec Ltd were called in to finish Terminal Two at Dublin Airport, a job they are currently still involved in, while they are also working in Adare Manor at the moment as well.

“We have a number of projects ongoing at the moment. Aside from T2 and Adare Manor, we are working in the National Arena, University Hospital, Limerick and we also have work in Letterkenny, so we are very much a nationwide company.

“We are happy with the direction of the business. We have a lot of repeat custom and once we are keeping them happy with the service that we provide then that is good enough for us.”

For the past 17 years, the company has had its headquarters in Ballingarry Co Limerick, where a converted church is now their main base.

From here, the company offers both on and off site maintenance services. This has several benefits as we can be called for assistance during company holidays and even after hours. This also can mean no risk to equipment from transport and no shipping cost incurred. This helps achieve a minimisation of downtime and gives opportunity to provide predictive and preventative maintenance.
