Traditional values shine through at Edmund Browne Construction

6 May , 2025

Operating out of Newport in County Tipperary, Edmund Browne Construction Ltd. is an exceptional, client focused contracting company that has delivered an outstanding portfolio of work since its inception in 2019. As we move into what promises to be EBCL’s busiest year to date, Building Ireland made a trip to Tipp to find out more about this in-demand family business.

Edmund Browne Construction is a relatively-new but upwardly-mobile building contractor that personifies the traditional values of this vital industry. The company is synonymous with the consistently delivery of workmanship of the highest calibre on every project undertaken.

A carpenter by trade, the eponymous founder always insists on the highest standards, combining the most exacting attention to detail with clear communication and the fostering of strong relationships to ensure that projects – be they residential or commercial – invariably meet or even exceed client satisfaction.

EBCL’s reputation for excellence is spreading quickly through word of mouth on the back of an impressive and ever-expanding portfolio of successfully completed projects, resulting in steady organic growth, so it’s no surprise to learn that 2025 is already shaping up to be EBCL’s busiest year to date:

“We’re very busy at the moment, and we have secured a number of larger projects for the New Year,” Edmund confirms. “We are lucky to regularly receive tender invites and inquiries into the office weekly, setting 2025 up as the busiest yet.

“Our aim is to strive for continuous business improvement. Being dynamic and forward thinking, we aim to continue developing our employees and to enhance our capabilities and the range of services we can offer to our clients.

“Staff numbers are continuing to grow steadily; we now employ carpenters, apprentice carpenters, foremen, GOs, a H&S Officer, QS and office staff, all of whom contribute daily to the continued growth of Edmund Browne Construction. I’m very lucky to have a great team of staff around me, it certainly makes my job a lot easier…

“We also enjoy very good long-term relationships with all our subcontractors, which is very important to us.”

Edmund has more than 18 years’ experience working in the construction industry. Following on from completing his carpentry apprenticeship upon leaving school, he became a sole trader and began roofing houses and doing fix carpentry.

The genesis of Edmund Browne Construction Ltd. took place in 2019. Although the double-whammy of Covid-19 and Brexit immediately brought uncertainty to the industry, EBCL steadily developed into a respected local building contractor, completing a series of well-received projects across counties Tipperary, Limerick and Clare predominantly.

“We provide our clients with a broad range of building services in the private, public and agricultural sectors,” Edmund continues. “Our company has grown in many ways in the past few years, one being that we have invested heavily in our machinery, enabling us to provide several additional services to our clients, whilst also branching into civil engineering projects.”

Commercial fit outs have also become a big part of the business. From dental practices to schools and offices, Edmund Browne Construction continues to expand into various construction sectors, leading to further growth of the business.

Maria (Edmund’s wife) joined the family business in 2020 and oversees the day-to-day running of the office.

EBCL has amassed an unrivalled track record for the high-quality delivery of a wide range of project types including new build residential homes, fit outs, conservation work, renovation and emergency works for the local Education & Training Boards, childcare facilities, farm buildings and civil works.

Every project, irrespective of size or value, is afforded the same painstaking attention to detail from start to finish. As for the secret of his success to date, Edmund notes: “I feel there are a number of factors. Firstly, building a relationship with your client, getting to know them and, most importantly, the project.

“Communication, attention to detail and punctuality are all extremely important, while also completing the project in a professional manner. Communication is key in any project and I feel this is something we do extremely well. Most projects we complete are secured through word of mouth, which I think is testament to the quality of work we complete for our clients.”

Very much an old-fashioned hands-on owner, Edmund agrees that ultimately it all comes down to quality and communication: “Yes, and relationships and delivering on time. You have to meet all the targets the client sets out and do so whilst working to a very high standard.

“We’ve purchased a lot of our own machinery over the past three years – including three diggers, two teleporters, a tractor and dump trailer – and having access to that plant and being able to look after the civils in-house definitely gives us a lot more control over the programme, which is a big thing.

“Consistency is key, too, and we have the same subcontractors working with us for years and we make sure to maintain good relationship with those subcontractors so that we can keep working to the same high standards all the time.

“We’re very busy thankfully and 2025 promises to be a very good year,” the founder of Edmund Browne Construction concludes. “Typically, we’d have anything between 12 to 15 jobs in hand at any given time between new build houses, renovations and commercial fit outs. We’ll continue to give them all our full undivided attention.”
