Quality, craftsmanship and growth

8 May , 2026

Established since 2010, Aidan Byrnes Building is a construction firm renowned for delivering quality residential building work and renovation services in the Munster region. Building Ireland touched base with its Managing Director Aidan Byrnes to learn all about the ins and outs of the company, its current projects and plans in the pipeline.

When Limerick man Aidan Byrnes first set-up his building company 16 years ago, he did some with the ambition of one day running an operation that’d be renowned for the highest quality within its work.

Today, Aidan Byrnes Building is a business which is very much associated with excellence in personalised building, renovation and bespoke construction services.

The company is a respected local building contractor operating from Castleconnell, Co Limerick and has earned a reputation for high quality with the projects it has delivered over the past decade-and-a-half.

Building Ireland caught up with Aidan recently to learn more about the services and current state of business at the moment down in the Treaty County.

“We do one-off new builds, extensions, renovations, commercial works and we’re getting more into the retro fitting side of things in the last few years,” the company’s Managing Director outlined.

“We do it all really everything from foundations and concrete works all the way through to a full finish including bathrooms, kitchens etc.”

He added: “Regarding the retro fitting, it would be a lot of the deep retrofits that we’re doing lately including complete gut outs of older dwellings with the additions of extensions and getting everything up to a warm and comfortable level of living. We can also look after the grants that are currently available for this type of building.”

Aidan’s own background before building his business in 2010 saw him serving his apprenticeship as a carpenter/joiner and with extensive practical experience across the building industry, the company has grown organically from its owner’s hands-on approach to craftsmanship and customer service.

The experience Aidan gained in the building trade also saw him spending some time abroad, as he explained.

“I’m a carpenter by trade, so it was all roofing and second fixing that I was doing prior to that,” he said. “I moved to Australia then for a couple of years and, when I came back, I set-up the business in 2010.

“It was tough getting it off the ground back then. There wasn’t a whole lot going on, but we persevered with it for a couple of years and we got going with a few extensions and that led into another job and we haven’t looked back since.”

Right now, business is flourishing at Aidan Byrnes Building and the plan for the team in Limerick is to try and keep things that way for the foreseeable future.

The company’s one-off new homes are bespoke builds which are tailored to the client’s designs, while its renovations range from interior modernisation to structural upgrades.

Aidan and the team can handle all stages of work, from groundwork through to finishing carpentry, ensuring quality and continuity throughout each project.

All of that considered, it’s no surprise to hear the Limerick man’s beaming tone when he speaks about the current state of business for the company.

“It’s very busy,” he said. “We have a lot of work booked in for the year ahead. Last year was a good year too. We did a couple of commercial projects there for a company and they were very enjoyable and professional to work with.”

He added: “We mainly have extensions and retrofits on the go at the minute. A few retrofits are underway and we have a few extensions finished off and a few  getting started too. There’s also a new build to start but we’re just waiting for the weather to improve for that. If it ever stops raining!

“The main spread of work that we have here would be in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.”

So, all of that considered, the clear question to ask is what has been the secret behind the success of Aidan Byrnes Building to date?

How has a small start-up, born in the middle of a harsh recession, particularly for the Irish construction industry, grown into what is very much now a thriving building firm with a golden reputation among its clients?

“At the end of the day, it comes down to being competitive first of all but also leaving a very high quality end product for the clients and their families,” Aidan pointed out.

“I strive to give the best quality finish that’s possible and the people working with me know this but, at the end of the day, money speaks all languages. Once you’re competitive and detailed, that’s the main thing.”

Looking towards the coming months for the business, the project books look healthy and the overall signs are very encouraging going forward.

As for expansion plans, Aidan says he’s eager to further develop the civil works side of the business throughout 2026, having recently made some new equipment purchases which he shed some light on.

“I recently added more machinery that allows us to now manage everything internally from the beginning of a job.”

So, if you’re looking for a trusted builder who specialises in practical construction work to build, extend or renovate properties to high standards, then look no further than Aidan Byrnes Building in Castleconnell, Co Limerick.
