Over the past twelve years and counting, Eoin Shine Electrical Services has established itself as one of Munster’s premier electrical contractors, synonymous with the consistent delivery of industry-leading residential, commercial, healthcare and education projects.

The genesis of the company goes back a dozen years to when New Inn man Eoin decided to go out on his own: “I set up as a sole trader in 2014 and went limited at the start of 2020,” he recalls. “I had served my time as an electrician and when the crash came and things went quiet I ended up going out on my own. It’s grown ever since.”
In hindsight, the brave move of taking the leap of faith and setting up his own business was the best decision Eoin ever took. In the space of twelve years, he’s developed the business from the typical one-man-with-a-van operation to a thriving and highly respected electrical contracting company that today generates direct employment for a team of 29 alongside a large number of repeat subcontractors.
An outstanding team is at the heart of Eoin Shine Electrical Services and it’s not by accident that the eponymous hands-on proprietor has assembled this highly-skilled crew: “The high retention of staff is a big thing here,” the Tipp man reiterates. “When I get lads in as apprentices, they tend to stay with me. We invest a lot of time and effort into training up lads.
“I’d try to get in lads who are maybe a bit green at the start but who really want to be electricians. I mould them into it and thankfully they tend to stick with me.”
At a time of notorious labour and trades shortages, the in-house apprenticeship scheme brings immeasurable value not just to Eoin Shine Electrical Services but also to the wider construction industry. The cycle continues unabated and Eoin, who currently has up to 17 apprentices on his books at various stages of qualification, continues:
“Inside the last year, a lot of the lads who started with me in 2020-21 have qualified and since Christmas I’ve taken on seven new first-year apprentices. What I’m aiming towards is a well-rounded electrician who can carry out any kind of work, so I’d train them to move around from job to job so that they see every aspect of electrical work as opposed to just one side of it. I’d have them moving around housing, commercial and healthcare projects, learning it all. Healthcare is a very busy sector with us at the moment and it’s very labour intensive.”
Eoin Shine Electrical Services cover a broad spectrum of sectors. They have for example been extremely busy with residential installations since Day One: “We do a lot of residential housing schemes, both private and social housing developments, from Tipperary to Limerick and as far as Tralee,” says Eoin. “We’ve done a lot of these schemes since Covid and also still do one-off houses.”
Healthcare is a particularly busy sector at the moment and a specialist area in which Eoin Shine Electrical Services has earned a stellar reputation for delivering critical installations both in new buildings and also operating on retrofits and upgrades in live settings.
Recently-completed healthcare projects include Roscrea Primary Care Centre and the stunning new Nenagh Primary Care Centre – an 82,500 square foot new build located across the road from Nenagh Hospital. Completed in late summer of 2025, this is the largest project Eoin Shine Electrical Services has delivered to date, with a value of almost €2m. For the duration of that work, Eoin had a crew of up to 25 men onsite.
Another major ongoing healthcare project at the time of writing is a magnificent new 88-bed, two-storey nursing home on Oak Park Road, Tralee for Mowlam Healthcare Services.
Education projects delivered include the new 16-classroom Cahir Primary School, a full life safety upgrade on Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s Kilmallock Road Campus as well as a life system upgrade at Cashel Community School. On the commercial front, Eoin and his dedicated team have delivered a series of installations and retrofits on retail premises across counties Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Kerry.
By invariably leaving an exceptional finished job behind every time, insisting on the most exactly attention to detail and implementing the most rigorous safety standards, Eoin Shine Electrical Services continue to pick up regular repeat business.
“We’re in a position now where we don’t have to go looking for work,” Eoin confirms. “There’s never an issue on any of our jobs and we strive to always exceed client expectations. We never add in any extra costs and everything always comes in on time and to budget. If you have a happy client, then they will be more inclined to work with you again.
“I also invest a lot of money back into the business – into people and into training – and this enables us to keep working to the highest levels of quality, which is something we pride ourselves on.”
Considering that Eoin Shine Electrical Services enjoys such a fantastic reputation and is in such high demand, is further growth on the cards or is it more prudent to remain at the company’s current size in order to ensure that every project is given full attention and there’s no compromise on quality?
“We’ll never compromise on quality, regardless,” Eoin concludes. “It’s very difficult to get staff and that’s one thing that limits how much you can grow. The best way to get staff is to take them in from scratch – lads who are genuinely interested in the trade – and train them in yourself. This is an approach that takes a lot of time but it’s working very well for us, with the added bonus of high staff retention, which is great.”
